Installation Tip:
Disconnect the NEGATIVE GROUND CABLE from the battery before starting the installation. This allows the engine's computer to reset and calibrate for the increased airflow and cooler intake temperatures. Always ensure the engine is completely cool before beginning work.

Tools You Will Need
- 10mm socket & ratchet (For battery and airbox mounting bolts)
- 8mm deep socket or 5/16 nut driver (For hose clamps)
- T20 Torx driver (For MAF sensor removal)
- Panel popper or flathead screwdriver (For wiring harness clips)
The Coyote 5.0L factory PCV breather fitting on the side of the intake tube gets extremely brittle from heat cycling. Do not force it. Squeeze the release tab carefully and gently twist to break the seal. Additionally, when transferring the MAF sensor, never touch the exposed wire element. A contaminated MAF will throw your F-150 into limp mode or cause harsh idle surging.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2011-2014 Ford F-150 5.0L
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights. This also drains the KAM (Keep Alive Memory) so the ECU can relearn fuel trims for the new airflow.
- Unplug the MAF Sensor: Slide the red locking tab back on the harness connector, squeeze the clip, and pull straight back. Use a panel popper to carefully pry the wiring harness retaining clip out of the factory airbox.
- Disconnect the PCV Breather: Carefully release the grey/green retaining tab on the crankcase vent hose and pull it off the factory intake tube.
- Loosen Factory Clamps: Use an 8mm socket to loosen the hose clamps securing the intake tube to the throttle body and the airbox lid.
- Remove the Intake Assembly: Pull the factory tube off the throttle body. Use a 10mm socket to remove the single bolt holding the lower airbox to the driver-side inner fender, then pull the entire box upward to pop it out of the rubber mounting grommets.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Ford F-150 (2011-2014) 5.0L V8 Engine Red
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: Use a T20 Torx driver to remove the two screws holding the factory MAF sensor. Carefully pull it straight out and install it into your new Red Cold Air Intake tube using the provided aftermarket hardware. Tighten snugly, but do not strip the threads.
- Mount the New Airbox/Shield: Drop the new heat shield or airbox into the factory lower grommets. Secure it to the inner fender using the original 10mm bolt and your 10mm socket.
- Position the Couplers: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the throttle body and the new airbox filter adapter. Pre-install the provided hose clamps, leaving them loose enough for adjustment.
- Install the New Intake Tube: Route the new red intake tube into the silicone couplers. Snap the factory PCV breather hose onto the new aluminum fitting until you hear a definitive click. Once aligned, use your 8mm socket to tighten all hose clamps securely. Reconnect the MAF wiring harness and engage the red locking tab.
- Initial Startup Protocol: Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten with a 10mm wrench. Start the engine. On this first startup, the vehicle gas pedal should not be touched for 20 seconds. Let the truck idle on its own so the Coyote ECU can adjust to the increased air volume without surging.
