Tired of your truck’s sluggish throttle response and muted engine sound? Unlock the true performance potential of your 4.3L V6 Silverado or Sierra with an upgrade designed for immediate power and a more commanding presence.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Chevy Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500 (2014-2018) 4.3L V6 (LV3)

The factory air intake system on your 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or GMC Sierra 1500 with the 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 engine is designed for quiet operation and cost-effectiveness, not maximum performance. Its restrictive air box and corrugated intake tube choke airflow, limiting your engine’s ability to breathe freely and achieve its full power potential, especially under load or during acceleration.

This high-flow cold air intake system directly addresses these limitations by replacing the entire restrictive stock assembly with a smooth, wide-diameter intake pipe and a high-performance washable air filter. By delivering a consistent, larger volume of cooler, denser air to your engine, this system ensures a more efficient combustion process, translating to noticeable gains in torque, sharper throttle response, and a more aggressive engine note you’ll love every time you hit the gas.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Enhanced Torque & Horsepower: Enjoy improved low-end torque and peak horsepower by supplying your 4.3L V6 with optimal airflow, making daily driving and towing feel effortless.
  • Instant Throttle Feedback: Eliminate the factory “lag” and experience crisp, immediate throttle response for a more engaging and confident driving experience.
  • Superior Thermal Management: The included heavy-duty heat shield effectively blocks engine bay heat, ensuring your engine always draws in cool, oxygen-rich air for consistent power delivery, even in demanding conditions.
  • Aggressive Induction Sound: Transform your truck’s acoustic profile with a deeper, more authoritative growl under acceleration, providing a visceral connection to your engine’s power.
  • Long-Term Engine Protection: The high-flow, reusable synthetic air filter provides excellent filtration to protect your engine from harmful debris while requiring less frequent replacement than stock paper filters.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - [Beginner friendly. Requires patience with plastic clips and sensors.]

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm Socket & Ratchet (Battery & Heat Shield bolts)
  • 8mm Nut Driver or Flathead Screwdriver (Hose clamps)
  • T15 Torx Bit (CRITICAL for MAF Sensor removal)
  • Panel Popper or small flathead (For harness clips)
  • Phillips Screwdriver (For adapter hardware)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the 2014-2018 EcoTec3 engines, the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is incredibly sensitive and the screws are prone to stripping the plastic housing. Do not touch the sensor bulb with your fingers—oils from your skin will foul it, causing a Check Engine Light (P0171/P0174). When transferring it, hand-tighten the T15 screws gently; do not use a drill.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Intake on your 4.3L V6

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Start by isolating the electrical system. Use a 10mm socket to disconnect the negative terminal. This resets the ECU fuel trims for the new airflow.
  2. Disconnect the PCV Breather Lines: Locate the two breather hoses connected to the factory resonator box. These use grey plastic locking tabs. Press the grey tab inward and pull gently. Warning: These become brittle due to heat cycling; if you force them, they will snap.
  3. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Slide the red locking tab back on the electrical harness connector, squeeze the tab, and pull the plug free. Use a panel popper to detach the wire loom clip from the airbox lid.
  4. Loosen the Clamps: Use an 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body and the clamp connecting the tube to the airbox lid.
  5. Remove the Factory Resonator: Lift the large intake plenum (resonator box) off the engine. It is held in by grommets; a firm upward tug will release it. Remove the factory airbox lid and filter.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra 1500 (2014-2018)

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using your T15 Torx bit, remove the sensor from the factory housing. Install it into the new red intake tube using the supplied hardware. Ensure the arrow on the sensor (if present) or the open side of the bulb faces the incoming airflow (towards the filter).
  2. Install the Heat Shield: Remove the factory airbox tray bolts (usually 10mm) if required by your specific kit, or drop the new heat shield into the factory grommets. Secure it down.
  3. Mount the Couplers: Install the silicone coupler onto the throttle body using the supplied clamps. Tighten the throttle body side with your 8mm driver, but leave the intake tube side loose for adjustment.
  4. Install the Intake Tube: Slide the new tube into the heat shield first, then into the throttle body coupler. connect the supplied breather hoses to the engine PCV ports and the new intake tube fittings.
  5. Filter & Final Lockdown: Install the high-flow air filter onto the end of the tube inside the heat shield. Once aligned (ensure the tube is not rubbing against the fan shroud or AC lines), tighten all hose clamps until snug. Do not overtighten to the point of deforming the silicone.
  6. Reconnect & Relearn: Plug the MAF harness back into the sensor. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Crucial Step: Start the truck and let it idle for 3-5 minutes without touching the gas pedal. This allows the ECU to recalibrate for the increased air volume of the 4.3L engine.
