Tired of that sluggish feeling when you put your foot down? You know your Impala or Monte Carlo has more to give, and upgrading your intake is the easiest way to tap into it.
Performance Ram Air Intake Kit for Chevrolet Monte Carlo (3.5L / 3.9L V6)
The stock airbox and intake tract on your 2006-2008 Chevy 3.5L or 3.9L V6 is, frankly, a choke point. Engineers have to balance noise, cost, and filtration requirements, often at the expense of performance. That restrictive design limits the amount of cool, dense air your engine can pull in, essentially suffocating its potential right off the line and throughout the RPM range.
Our Ram Air Intake Kit is engineered to eliminate that bottleneck. By replacing the convoluted factory plumbing and restrictive paper filter with a free-flowing T304 lightweight aluminum tube and a high-efficiency washable filter, we allow your engine to breathe deeply. More air means more efficient combustion, leading directly to a noticeable bump in power, crisper throttle response, and a much more satisfying growl from under the hood.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Instant Power & Throttle Response: You’ll feel the difference immediately. That 3.5L or 3.9L V6 will pull harder across the entire RPM band, not just at the top end, making merging and passing a lot more confident.
- Enhanced Engine Sound: Ditch the muted stock drone. This intake opens up a deeper, sportier, and more aggressive tone that perfectly complements the V6 engine without being obnoxious.
- Superior Filtration & Longevity: Our high-flow, washable filter is designed for exceptional particulate capture while maintaining maximum airflow. Clean it every 50,000 miles and it’s good to go, saving you money on disposable filters in the long run.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic hand tools required. The only challenge is navigating aged, heat-cycled factory plastics and fragile sensors without breaking them.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet (For the battery terminal and factory airbox bolts)
- 8mm Socket or Nut Driver (For removing and tightening hose clamps)
- T20 Torx Driver (For safely extracting the factory MAF sensor)
- Panel Popper Tool (For releasing plastic harness clips without tearing the wire)
- Soapy Water in a Spray Bottle (To help seat the new silicone couplers)
W-body enthusiasts know the pain of the LZ4 and LZ9 engines—the factory PCV breather hose running to the intake is notorious for snapping. The plastic gets extremely brittle from years of engine bay heat soak. Do not just yank it off. Gently twist the hose back and forth to break the crusty seal before pulling. Furthermore, your Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor is the brain of your fuel trims. Treat it like glass and never touch the internal exposed wire.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights or accidental shorts.
- Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the MAF sensor on your 2006-2008 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 3.5L 3.9L factory intake tube. Slide back the colored locking tab, press the release clip, and pull the harness straight back. Use your panel popper to unclip the wire harness from the side of the airbox.
- Loosen the Hose Clamps: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the worm-gear clamps securing the accordion-style rubber intake tube to the throttle body and the airbox lid.
- Disconnect the PCV Breather: Carefully twist and pull the factory PCV breather tube away from the main intake tube. Remember the "Gotcha"—use finesse so you don’t snap the brittle plastic neck.
- Extract the Factory Airbox: Remove the 10mm bolts securing the lower airbox tray to the fender apron. Once the bolts are out, grab the entire airbox assembly and pull firmly upward to pop it out of its lower rubber mounting grommets. Remove it from the engine bay.
Phase 2: Installing the Ram Air Intake Kit for Chevrolet Monte Carlo (2006-2008) with 3.5L / 3.9L V6 Engine Red
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using your T20 Torx driver, remove the two screws holding the MAF sensor in the OEM housing. Gently wiggle the sensor out. Immediately transfer the sensor into your new red intake tube, securing it with the provided aftermarket hardware. Ensure the airflow directional arrow on the sensor points toward the throttle body.
- Mount the Heat Shield: Drop the new kit’s heat shield into the factory airbox cavity. Bolt it down securely using your 10mm socket and the factory mounting locations.
- Install the Silicone Couplers: Slide the provided silicone coupler over the throttle body. A quick spritz of soapy water makes this effortless. Slide the provided clamps over the coupler and leave them loose for now.
- Seat the Intake Tube & Filter: Push the new red Ram Air Intake tube into the throttle body coupler. Attach the high-flow air filter to the other end resting inside the heat shield. Reconnect your factory PCV breather line to the CNC-machined bung on the new tube. Once everything is aligned perfectly, tighten all hose clamps firmly with your 8mm socket.
- Reconnect and Calibrate: Plug the MAF sensor harness back in and engage the locking tab. Finally, reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm socket. Start the vehicle, but do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Allow the vehicle to idle so the ECU can adapt its fuel trims to the increased airflow.
