Performance Water Pump & Timing Belt Kit for Acura MDX (2003-2013) 3.5L 3.7L

Complete Heavy-Duty Timing Belt & Water Pump Service Kit for 2003-2013 Acura MDX (YD1/YD2)

What it Does: The Performance Timing Belt and Water Pump Kit refreshes the critical interference drive assembly on the 2003-2013 Acura MDX, maintaining precise valve synchronization and reliable cooling flow to eliminate catastrophic valve-to-piston contact.

The Stock Acura MDX Timing Drive Vulnerability

The Honda/Acura J-series V6 in the YD1 and YD2 chassis is a high-compression interference engine. With age and extended service intervals, the factory hydraulic tensioner loses damping pressure, creating timing belt slack that leads to tooth skip and irreversible cylinder head damage. Concurrently, factory water pump shaft bearings suffer axial play and mechanical seal degradation, risking coolant contamination across the timing tract while brittle OEM front oil seals leak onto belt elastomers.

The Engineering Solution

This comprehensive service package replaces high-stress wear components in a single service event. The high-tensile timing belt utilizes heat-resistant HNBR construction with aramid reinforcement to prevent elongation under high rotational load. Paired with an aluminum die-cast water pump featuring a precision-balanced impeller and carbon-ceramic seal, this kit eliminates thermal pump drag and cavitation. Included billet steel idler and tensioner pulleys restore correct rotational geometry, backed by a pre-bled hydraulic damper to absorb harmonic camshaft pulses.

Frequently Asked Questions & Fitment Warnings

Does this fit the YD1 and YD2 MDX?

Yes, this is a direct fit for the 2003-2013 Acura MDX equipped with the J35A5 3.5L or J37A1 3.7L engine. Does not fit 2014+ Earth Dreams direct-injected engines.

Do I need to bleed the hydraulic tensioner prior to installation?

No, the hydraulic auto-tensioner arrives pre-charged and pinned; remove the locking pin only after final belt routing and torque verification.
