Awaken Your Infiniti G35’s VQ35DE V6: Performance Cold Air Intake System (Red)

Who It’s For: Designed specifically for 2003-2006 Infiniti G35 Coupe and Sedan owners running the legendary VQ35DE V6 engine who demand more than just factory performance.

The Problem: When you’re pushing your G35, the stock air box on the VQ35DE V6 becomes a major bottleneck. It’s restrictive, poorly designed for airflow, and notorious for drawing in hot engine bay air. This robs your VQ of horsepower, torque, and that sharp throttle response you crave, leaving power on the table, especially during spirited driving.

The Solution: We engineered this performance cold air intake system to completely bypass the factory’s design limitations. By delivering a consistent, high volume of colder, denser outside air directly to your VQ35DE V6, this system ensures more efficient combustion, translating into immediate gains you can feel and hear. It’s a direct upgrade that addresses the core airflow deficiencies of the stock setup.

Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade

  • Enhanced Performance & Sound: Experience a noticeable bump of 5-7% in horsepower and 6-8% in torque. The VQ35DE V6 will breathe deeper, rev quicker, and respond crisper to your inputs, all while delivering a deeper, more aggressive exhaust note that truly matches the car’s character.
  • Superior Durability & Filtration: Crafted from lightweight, T-304 aluminum tubing, this intake resists heat soak and corrosion, ensuring long-term performance. The included high-flow air filter is not only washable and reusable, saving you money, but also boasts up to 95% filtration efficiency, protecting your engine far better than many stock paper filters.
  • Effortless Installation & Appearance: Designed as a direct replacement for your factory air box, installation is straightforward and typically takes less than an hour with basic hand tools. The polished anodized red finish not only looks fantastic under the hood, adding a touch of aggressive styling, but also provides added heat resistance for sustained performance.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic hand tools, but requires patience with sensitive VQ35DE electronics and brittle 15-plus-year-old plastic clips.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm deep socket & ratchet (Essential for battery, brackets, and clamps)
  • 8mm socket (For aftermarket hose and filter clamps)
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver (JIS preferred for Japanese factory screws)
  • Panel popper tool (For factory air duct push-clips)
  • Pliers (For the PCV breather hose clamp)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The VQ35DE engine’s Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is incredibly sensitive, but the real nightmare on the G35 chassis is the factory hardware. The two screws holding the MAF sensor to the housing are extremely soft. If you don’t use firm downward pressure with a proper #2 Phillips, they will strip immediately. Also, the 10mm bolt holding the bottom of the factory airbox to the fender well is notorious for rusting and snapping. Hit it with penetrating oil before you put a wrench on it!

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2003-2006 Infiniti G35 3.5L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and protect the ECU from short-circuiting.
  2. Remove the Factory Air Duct: Use a panel popper to carefully extract the plastic push-clips holding the front air scoop/snorkel above the radiator. These are notorious for shattering on the 2003-2006 Infiniti G35 3.5L, so take your time and pry gently.
  3. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Press the release tab and pull the harness connector away from the MAF. Unclip the wire harness tie-downs from the factory airbox housing so the wire hangs completely free.
  4. Loosen the Clamps & Hoses: Use your pliers to squeeze and slide back the spring clamp on the PCV breather hose attached to the factory rubber intake tube. Pull the hose free. Then, use a 10mm socket to loosen the main hose clamp at the throttle body.
  5. Extract the Factory Airbox: Remove the single bolt securing the airbox base to the chassis using a 10mm deep socket. Pull the entire factory intake assembly up and out of the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Performance Air Intake (Red)

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using your #2 Phillips screwdriver, carefully remove the two soft screws on the factory airbox. Gently pull the MAF sensor straight out. Do NOT touch the exposed wire element. Install it into your new Red Performance Air Intake tube using the supplied aftermarket bolts (often requiring a 3mm or 4mm Allen wrench).
  2. Install the Heat Shield: If your kit includes a heat shield, mount it to the factory airbox location and tighten the provided hardware down with a 10mm socket.
  3. Mount the Silicone Couplers: Slide the provided silicone coupler over the throttle body. Slide the hose clamps on, but leave them loose. Insert the new intake tube into the coupler and tighten both clamps down securely with an 8mm socket.
  4. Connect Hoses & Filter: Slide the provided red performance cone filter onto the end of the intake tube and lock it down with an 8mm socket. Reconnect the factory PCV breather hose to the new intake tube fitting, securing it with your pliers to position the spring clamp.
  5. Final Checks & ECU Learn Procedure: Reconnect the MAF sensor harness until you hear it click. Double-check that all clamps are tight to prevent vacuum leaks. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with a 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle, but do NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the G35 idle uninterrupted so the ECU can adjust to the newly increased airflow volume.
