The 720S wheel arch liners use several T25 and T30 Torx screws that look identical at a glance but differ in thread pitch and shank length. Map them out on cardboard as you remove them. Installing a long Torx screw into a shallow blind chassis hole can crack the composite inner fender structure or punch directly into exterior bodywork. Additionally, always screw in a wheel guide pin before sliding the rear wheels off to eliminate any chance of the wheel barrel striking and chipping your brittle Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brake rotors.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Air Filters on the 2017-2023 McLaren 720S 4.0L

Disconnect the Battery: Open the front luggage compartment (frunk), remove the access trim using a panel popper, and disconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to power down the vehicle electronics and prevent diagnostic fault codes.
Lift and Secure the Vehicle: Place your McLaren slotted jack puck adapter into the rear jack points. Lift the rear of the vehicle with a floor jack and lower it onto heavy-duty jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is rock-solid before proceeding under the wheel wells.
Remove the Rear Wheels: Break the lug bolts loose using a 19mm protective socket and breaker bar. Thread a wheel hanger guide pin into the top hub hole before pulling the wheel straight off to avoid contact with the ceramic brake discs.

Phase 2: Installing the Performance Air Filter Cone for McLaren 720S (2017-2023) 4.0L

Prep and Inspect the Intake Inlet: Wipe down the internal rubber intake boot and turbo inlet tract with a clean, lint-free microfiber towel to ensure no road grit enters the M840T twin-turbochargers.
Mount the Performance Cone Filter: Slide the silicone adapter/flange of the new performance cone filter firmly over the airbox intake inlet neck. Ensure the filter is fully bottomed out against the stop shoulder for an airtight seal.
