The Stock F-150, Raptor, & Expedition PCV Shortcoming

Modern Ford powerplants, particularly the 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost variants, utilize direct injection technology which leaves intake valves vulnerable. In a stock configuration, the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system vents oil-rich blow-by gases directly back into the intake manifold. Because fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber rather than over the valves, there is no detergent action to wash away these deposits. Over time, this results in significant carbon bake-on, which disrupts laminar airflow, reduces volumetric efficiency, and can lead to erratic idling and lost fuel economy. In the 5.0L Coyote, excessive oil vapor in the intake charge lowers the effective octane rating, increasing the risk of knock under heavy towing loads.

The Engineering Solution

This oil separator is CNC-machined from high-grade anodized aluminum, designed to withstand the high thermal stresses and vacuum pressures of turbocharged applications. The internal baffling system effectively precipitates oil droplets and combustion byproducts out of the air stream, collecting them in the reservoir.
