Common Questions

What does this OBD2 to 9-Pin J1939 Y cable do?
It adapts a factory 9-pin J1939 Deutsch heavy-duty truck diagnostic port to a standard 16-pin OBD2 connection, providing power, ground, CAN/J1939, and J1708/J1587 data for performance modules and OBD2 devices.

How long is this adapter cable?
The cable is approximately 12 inches long.

Where is the 9-pin diagnostic port located on my truck?
On most medium and heavy-duty trucks, the 9-pin diagnostic port is located in the cab below the steering wheel on the left side.

Will this fit a truck with a 6-pin diagnostic port or a 16-pin OBD2 port?
This adapter is built specifically for trucks equipped with a 9-pin J1939 diagnostic port. Trucks that already have a 16-pin OBDII plug (such as 2014 and newer Volvo-engine Volvo and Mack trucks) connect directly to 16-pin OBD2 devices without this adapter.

Does this work on 2017-2018 Peterbilt and International trucks?
Per the diagnostic port guide, Peterbilt and International trucks manufactured from 2017 to 2018 require a special 9-pin cable configuration.
