High-Flow Long Tube Headers for 1998-2002 Chevrolet Camaro & Pontiac Firebird

What it does: Replaces the restrictive factory cast-iron exhaust manifolds with high-flow long tube headers to significantly increase exhaust scavenging and engine volumetric efficiency on LS1-powered F-Bodies.

The Stock F-Body Exhaust Bottleneck

The factory cast-iron exhaust manifolds on the 1998-2002 LS1 F-Body are designed for emissions compliance and tight packaging constraints rather than optimal airflow. These heavy, restrictive log-style manifolds create significant exhaust backpressure, which chokes the 5.7L engine at higher RPMs. Additionally, the factory design traps excessive heat against the cylinder heads, increasing engine bay temperatures and leading to heat soak during spirited driving or track sessions. The OEM system also incorporates restrictive AIR and EGR fittings that further disrupt exhaust flow dynamics, heavily limiting the true horsepower potential of the GM LS architecture.

The Engineering Solution

Upgrading to these long tube headers eliminates factory backpressure by utilizing large 1 7/8-inch primary tubes that transition smoothly into 3-inch outlets. This geometry maximizes exhaust gas velocity and drastically improves the scavenging effect, effectively pulling spent gases out of the combustion chamber. Constructed from polished stainless steel, these headers resist corrosion and manage high thermal loads far better than OEM cast iron. The flanges are CNC-machined to prevent warping and ensure a leak-free seal against the block, while the TIG and MIG welded construction guarantees structural integrity under extreme stress. By deleting the AIR/EGR fittings for a streamlined race design, this system is capable of delivering proven gains of 25+ horsepower. Note: O2 sensor extensions are required to reach the relocated bungs.
