Factory coil-on-plug modules in the GM Sigma platform are subject to extreme thermal cycling within the tight Northstar cylinder head valley. Over time, engine bay heat soak degrades the internal OEM potting resin, creating micro-fractures in the coil housing. This leads to dielectric breakdown, high-voltage arcing, and intermittent misfires under load (DTC P0300–P0308). Standard worn plugs simultaneously increase electrical resistance, overstressing the primary ignition circuit and degrading fuel economy.
