The Stock H2 Weakness

The OEM cast-iron manifolds found on the 6.0L and 6.2L GMT900 platform are prone to significant thermal stress, often leading to warped flanges and the notorious broken manifold bolt syndrome common in GM LS-based engines. Beyond structural failure, the interior of the factory casting is rough and features restrictive, sharp-angled collectors. This creates turbulent airflow and excessive backpressure, which traps heat near the cylinder heads and chokes the engine’s volumetric efficiency, particularly when under the high-load conditions typical of a 6,600lb vehicle.

The Engineering Solution

These shorty headers are engineered from high-grade T304 stainless steel, utilizing 1.75-inch primaries to maintain high exhaust gas velocity. The mandrel-bending process ensures uniform pipe diameter throughout the bend, eliminating the flow restrictions found in stock units. A CNC-machined flange provides a precision-flat mating surface to prevent exhaust leaks, while TIG-welded construction ensures the assembly can withstand the extreme EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temperatures) generated during heavy towing or off-road excursions. By streamlining the transition to the 2.25-inch outlet, these manifolds facilitate superior scavenging, pulling exhaust gases out of the combustion chamber more effectively to allow for a denser intake charge.
