The Stock Touring, Dyna, and Softail Airflow Restriction

The OEM air cleaner assemblies on 1993-2007 Touring models and late-model Dynas are engineered primarily for noise attenuation and strict emissions compliance rather than flow velocity. These factory units utilize a closed-box design with narrow intake snorkels and dense paper media filters that create a significant pressure drop as RPMs climb, effectively starving the V-Twin of oxygen. Furthermore, the stock plastic backplates are susceptible to heat-induced warping over thousands of thermal cycles, which can compromise the seal at the throttle body and lead to vacuum leaks or the ingestion of unfiltered debris into the combustion chamber.

The Engineering Solution

This intake system utilizes a heavy-duty CNC-machined aluminum base and faceplate to provide a perfectly flat mating surface, ensuring a leak-proof seal against the intake tract. The filter element is a high-performance composite consisting of a structural aluminum mesh and high-density melt-blown fabric, which provides superior particulate filtration while maintaining a high CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) rating. The open-element design eliminates the restrictive outer housing, allowing the engine to pull air from 360 degrees. To modernize the aesthetic, the assembly includes a 7-color 4200K LED strip and a dedicated plug-and-play harness, providing customizable illumination of the red filter media without requiring custom wiring or soldering.
