The Stock Weakness

The OEM exhaust system on the GD and GG chassis Subaru is engineered primarily for noise suppression and emissions, creating significant mechanical bottlenecks. The factory downpipe utilizes a restrictive flat-plate casting at the turbo outlet which causes extreme turbulence at the wastegate flapper, hindering boost control. Additionally, the stock up-pipe in many early models contains a restrictive catalytic converter that is prone to disintegration over time; if these internal ceramics fail, they are often sucked into the turbocharger turbine, causing catastrophic engine failure. The small-diameter, crush-bent factory piping further increases Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs), limiting the power potential of the EJ-series boxer engine.

The Engineering Solution

This system is engineered using high-grade T-304 stainless steel, featuring 3-inch OD main piping to drastically improve flow capacity over stock. Unlike the factory's restrictive bends, this kit utilizes computerized mandrel-bending to maintain a constant internal diameter throughout every radius, eliminating pressure drops and turbulence. The 2-inch to 2-1/4" up-pipe is designed to decrease spool-up time by increasing exhaust gas velocity before it hits the turbine wheel. The system includes a 4-inch double-wall rolled muffler tip for a deep, resonant boxer tone and features TIG-welded O2 sensor bungs for a direct bolt-on installation that retains factory sensor logic without the need for custom fabrication.
