High-Flow T-304 Stainless Exhaust Headers for 1983-1987 Ford F-250, F-350 (460 V8 / 7th & 8th Gen F-Series)

Designed specifically for 2WD 7.5L applications, this stainless steel header set replaces the restrictive factory cast-iron manifolds to optimize exhaust scavenging, lower cylinder head temperatures, and increase low-end torque.

The Stock F-250, F-350 Cast Iron Manifold Bottleneck

The factory cast-iron exhaust manifolds on the 385-Series 460 cubic inch V8 are notoriously restrictive, acting as a severe thermal and kinetic bottleneck. Originally designed for mass production and chassis clearance rather than optimal volumetric efficiency, the OEM manifolds suffer from poor flow dynamics and uneven runner paths. Over time, these thick iron blocks retain extreme levels of heat, causing under-hood heat soak that robs the engine of dense intake air and decreases performance. Furthermore, the extreme thermal cycling frequently leads to cracking across the manifold ports or warped mating surfaces, resulting in persistent exhaust leaks, annoying ticking sounds, and compromised engine efficiency under heavy load.

The Engineering Solution

This long-tube header set corrects the flow restrictions of the 460 V8 by utilizing 1-3/4 inch outer diameter (OD) primaries that smoothly transition into high-velocity 3-inch OD collectors. Constructed entirely from premium T-304 stainless steel, these headers resist the severe corrosion and thermal degradation that destroy factory iron. The inclusion of heavy-duty 3/8-inch thick machined flanges ensures a rigid, warp-free seal against the cylinder head, drastically reducing the risk of exhaust blow-by. By equalizing exhaust pulses and utilizing a 3-inch to 2.5-inch collector reducer, the system accelerates exhaust gas velocity, creating a scavenging effect that aggressively pulls spent gasses from the combustion chamber. This results in significantly lower exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs), improved throttle response, and a broader torque curve for hauling and towing.
