The Stock Escalade Exhaust Restriction

The factory exhaust manifolds on the GMT800 and GMT900 chassis are heavy cast-iron "log" style units designed more for manufacturing cost and engine bay packaging than performance. These manifolds create significant internal turbulence because exhaust pulses from adjacent cylinders compete for space in a cramped common chamber. This interference increases backpressure, which traps heat in the cylinder heads and forces the engine to work harder during the exhaust stroke. Over time, these stock manifolds are prone to warping and broken manifold bolts, leading to persistent exhaust leaks and diminished fuel efficiency.

The Engineering Solution

This system utilizes an 8-2-1 design, featuring 1.75" primary tubes constructed from mandrel-bent T-304 stainless steel. By providing each cylinder with a dedicated runner, exhaust pulses are timed to create a vacuum effect (scavenging) that pulls spent gases out of the combustion chamber more efficiently. The headers feature heavy-duty 7/16" head flanges and 3/8" outlet flanges, CNC-machined to ensure a warp-resistant, leak-free seal against the cylinder head. All joints are TIG-welded for superior structural integrity under high thermal stress. The 2.40" outlet Y-pipe is finished with a 3-stage polish and includes three O2 sensor bungs to maintain proper air-fuel ratio monitoring.
