The Stock D-Series Shortcoming

The OEM cast-iron exhaust manifolds found on the D15 and D16 SOHC engines are notoriously restrictive, designed primarily for cost-effective mass production and emissions compliance rather than optimized flow. Over decades of thermal cycling, these heavy factory manifolds are prone to heat retention, cracking along the collector, and excessive heat soak within the engine bay. The internal surface of the factory cast manifold is rough, creating turbulent airflow that impedes exhaust gas velocity, increases backpressure, and ultimately stifles the engine's volumetric efficiency across the RPM band.

The Engineering Solution

This 2-piece 4-2-1 exhaust header system is engineered to maximize exhaust gas velocity and eliminate the backpressure inherent to the factory setup. Constructed from CNC-machined T-304 stainless steel, the mandrel-bent piping maintains a consistent diameter throughout the primary and secondary tubes. The 4-2-1 design optimizes mid-range torque and high-RPM horsepower by improving the exhaust scavenging effect. Computerized TIG-welded flanges ensure structural integrity and a leak-free seal under extreme thermal stress. Featuring a 1.75-inch inlet and a 2.0-inch outlet, this header smoothly transitions exhaust gases out of the cylinder head. Pre-welded hangers align perfectly with factory mounting points, ensuring a direct bolt-on installation without the need for custom fabrication or cutting.
