Performance Cold Air Intake Kit Matte Black/Red for Chevrolet C/K 3500 (5.0L / 5.7L V8 Engine)
The factory air intake system in your 1996-1999 Chevrolet C/K 3500, particularly with the robust 5.0L or 5.7L V8, was designed primarily for noise reduction and cost efficiency. This often translates into a highly restrictive airflow path, choking your engine’s ability to breathe freely and hindering its true potential for horsepower, torque, and responsive acceleration.
This Cold Air Intake Kit in a sleek matte black finish with red accents directly addresses these factory limitations. By replacing the cumbersome stock air box and restrictive tubing with a high-flow, T304 lightweight aluminum system, it dramatically increases the volume and velocity of cold, dense air entering your engine. The result is a noticeable boost in power, sharpened throttle response, and a more aggressive, satisfying engine note for your Chevrolet C/K 3500.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Instant Horsepower & Torque Gains: Experience an immediate performance increase of up to 10% in horsepower and torque, providing more muscle for towing, hauling, or everyday driving.
- Sharpened Throttle Response: Eliminate sluggishness and feel a more direct connection to your engine with significantly improved throttle responsiveness, making acceleration smoother and more immediate.
- Enhanced Engine Sound & Longevity: Enjoy a deeper, sportier engine growl under acceleration, complemented by a high-efficiency washable and reusable air filter that requires cleaning only every 50,000 miles, ensuring long-term performance and reduced maintenance.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time for 1996-1999 Chevrolet C/K Trucks 5.0L 5.7L
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 2/10 - Straightforward bolt-on, but requires care with aging factory plastics.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm wrench
- 10mm socket and ratchet with a 6-inch extension
- 5/16" nut driver (or flathead screwdriver)
- Panel popper tool
- Silicone spray lubricant (or soapy water)
OBS (Old Body Style) Chevy engine bay plastics are notoriously brittle after decades of heat cycles. When removing the factory "Vortec hat" (the plastic plenum on the throttle body) and the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, do not force anything. The rubber grommet holding the IAT sensor will be rock hard. Prying it with a screwdriver will snap the sensor. Soak it in silicone spray and twist it out slowly to transfer it to your new kit.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and protect the ECU on your 1996-1999 Chevrolet C/K Trucks 5.0L 5.7L.
- Unplug the Sensors: Locate the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor and the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube. Depress the locking tabs and pull the harnesses free. Use a panel popper to gently pry the wiring harness anchors out of the plastic tubing.
- Remove the Factory Vortec Hat: Use your 10mm socket to loosen the retaining collar or central stud nut securing the plastic air plenum to the top of the throttle body. Carefully disconnect the factory PCV/crankcase vent hose from the side of the intake.
- Unbolt the Airbox: Grab your 10mm socket and extension to remove the bolts holding the factory airbox to the passenger-side fender well. Lift the entire airbox and intake tube assembly out of the engine bay.
- Rescue the MAF Sensor: Using a 5/16" nut driver, loosen the hose clamps holding the factory MAF housing to the OEM tubing. Carefully separate the housing. Do not poke or spray the delicate honeycomb screen inside the MAF, or you will ruin it.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake Kit Matte Black/Red
- Mount the Heat Shield: Drop the new heat shield into the space left by the factory airbox. Secure it to the OEM fender mounting points using the provided hardware and a 10mm socket.
- Transfer the Factory Sensors: Spray a tiny amount of silicone lubricant onto the new intake tube’s rubber grommet. Carefully twist and push the factory IAT sensor into place. Next, attach the factory MAF sensor housing to the new tubing using the supplied silicone couplers. Tighten these clamps snugly with your 5/16" nut driver.
- Install the New Plenum and Tubing: Seat the new throttle body adapter securely onto the throttle body and tighten the clamp. Route the Cold Air Intake Kit Matte Black/Red tubing between the throttle body and the heat shield. Tighten all remaining T-bolt or worm-gear clamps with your 5/16" nut driver.
- Connect the Filter and PCV: Slide the new high-flow cone filter onto the end of the intake tube inside the heat shield and lock it down. Route the supplied crankcase vent hose from the engine block fitting to the welded port on your new intake tube. Reconnect both the MAF and IAT electrical harnesses until you hear them click.
- Perform the ECU Relearn: Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. Turn the key and start the truck. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. The ECU needs this time to idle undisturbed and calibrate its fuel trims for the increased airflow.
