Stop letting your turbo breathe through a straw and finally hear that bypass valve sneeze the way it was meant to.
Performance Cold Air Intake for Hyundai Genesis Coupe (Theta II)
If you’ve spent any time on the Genesis forums, you know the BK1 2.0T is a tuner’s playground, but it’s notoriously choked from the factory. The stock airbox is designed more for silencing the engine than it is for flow, leaving your turbo struggling for breath just when the boost starts to climb. This intake system replaces that restrictive plastic plumbing with mandrel-bent T-304 aluminum, ensuring your Theta II engine gets the high-velocity air it needs to stay efficient under load.
Heat soak is the enemy of any turbocharged platform, especially in the tight engine bay of the Genesis Coupe. By utilizing a polished anodized finish, this system reflects radiant heat better than raw alloy, keeping intake air temperatures (IATs) stable during spirited runs. Whether you're chasing better throttle response for your daily commute or looking to maximize the efficiency of your stock turbo setup, this is the foundational modification that every BK1 owner starts with—and for good reason.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Enhanced Induction Sound: Dramatically increases turbo spool sounds and bypass valve resonance for a more engaging driving experience.
- Reduced Air Turbulence: Mandrel-bent piping maintains a constant diameter, minimizing the drag and turbulence found in the corrugated factory bellows.
- High-Flow Filtration: The included washable filter provides 95% filtration efficiency without the "brick wall" resistance of a standard paper element.
- Corrosion Resistance: T-304 aluminum construction with an anodized finish ensures your engine bay stays looking sharp without the threat of oxidation.
- Performance Gains: Optimized airflow supports an increase of up to 5–7% in horsepower and 6–8% in torque by improving the engine's volumetric efficiency.

Installation Notes
This is a direct-fit performance upgrade. While the process is straightforward and uses basic hand tools, we highly recommend professional installation to ensure all couplers are pressure-tight. Ensuring a leak-free seal at the turbo inlet is critical to prevent "unmetered air" issues and to maintain consistent boost pressures. Always check your clamps after the first 100 miles of heat cycling.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time: 2010-2012 Genesis Hyundai Genesis Coupe Genesis 2.0L
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - A straightforward driveway swap, but requires patience dealing with brittle, decade-old engine bay plastics and heat-cycled rubber hoses.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm socket and 12mm socket with a 3/8" ratchet and an extension
- 10mm wrench (for the battery terminal)
- Flathead screwdriver or 5/16" nut driver (for hose clamps)
- Panel popper tool (to remove the factory air scoop without destroying clips)
- Needle-nose pliers (for factory spring clamps)
If you spend any time on the GenCoupe forums, you know the BK1 2.0T chassis has a universally agreed-upon headache: baked, brittle plastics. When removing the factory BPV (Bypass Valve) recirculation hose and PCV lines from the stock intake tube, DO NOT just yank them. You will tear the aged rubber or snap the factory plastic turbo inlet flange. Use a pick tool to gently break the rubber seal from the inside before pulling. While the BK1 2.0T uses a MAP sensor (Speed Density) rather than an inline MAF, any tear in these vacuum/BPV lines during transfer will cause severe vacuum leaks, erratic idling, and false lean codes. Handle them delicately.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2010-2012 Genesis Hyundai Genesis Coupe Genesis 2.0L
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and clear the ECU memory.
- Remove the Ram-Air Scoop: Use your panel popper tool to gently pry up the two plastic push-clips securing the factory front air scoop to the radiator core support. Lift and pull the scoop straight out.
- Disconnect the Hoses: Grab your needle-nose pliers and squeeze the tension clamps holding the BPV return hose and the PCV breather hose to the factory intake tube. Slide the clamps back, twist the hoses to break the heat-cycled seal, and pull them off.
- Loosen the Clamps: Use your flathead screwdriver or 10mm socket to fully loosen the factory hose clamp securing the corrugated intake tube to the turbo inlet flange.
- Unbolt and Remove the Airbox: Locate the mounting bolts holding the lower factory airbox to the chassis. Use your 10mm socket with an extension to completely remove the bolts. Grab the entire factory airbox assembly and firmly pull upward to pop it out of the lower rubber grommets.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake Kit for Hyundai Genesis Coupe (2010-2012) with 2.0L 4 Cylinder Turbocharged Engine Blue
- Mount the Heat Shield: Assemble the supplied metal heat shield and lower it into the engine bay, aligning it with the factory mounting points. Secure the shield using the supplied hardware and your 10mm socket. Be sure to slide the provided edge-trim over the metal lip to prevent cutting the new pipe.
- Install the Silicone Coupler: Slide the provided silicone step-coupler onto the factory turbo inlet. Slip a T-bolt clamp over the base and tighten it securely with your 10mm socket, ensuring it sits flush and won’t leak under boost.
- Route the Blue Intake Pipe: Guide the blue aluminum intake tube through the heat shield opening and insert the bottom end into the silicone coupler at the turbo inlet. Leave the top T-bolt clamp loosely installed to allow for minor adjustments.
- Transfer the Connections: Push the factory PCV breather and BPV recirculation hoses onto the newly welded aluminum nipples on your blue intake pipe. Re-use the factory spring clamps or the supplied worm-gear clamps, securing them tight with your needle-nose pliers or flathead screwdriver to ensure a closed-loop seal for the MAP system.
- Mount the Filter and Finalize: Slide the blue conical air filter onto the end of the intake pipe inside the heat shield compartment. Tighten the filter clamp using your 5/16" nut driver. Double-check all clearances, ensuring the pipe isn’t rubbing on the brake master cylinder lines or chassis, then crank down the remaining T-bolt clamp at the turbo inlet.
- Reconnect and Relearn: Reconnect your negative battery terminal using the 10mm wrench. Start the engine, but DO NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Allow the ECU time to read the ambient air pressure and adjust its idle trims to the increased airflow before giving it a rev.
