Tired of your GMC Sierra 1500 feeling sluggish and held back? Unlock the true potential of your 4.3L V6 and experience immediate throttle response and a powerful surge of acceleration.

Performance Cold Air Intake Kit for GMC Sierra 1500 (4.3L V6)

The factory air intake system on your 1999-2006 GMC Sierra 1500 4.3L V6 is designed for quiet operation and cost-efficiency, not optimal performance. Its restrictive design, often featuring convoluted piping and a small, disposable paper filter, chokes your engine’s ability to breathe freely, limiting both horsepower and torque output.

This performance Cold Air Intake Kit directly addresses those limitations, replacing the OEM bottlenecks with a free-flowing T304 lightweight aluminum tube and a high-efficiency washable air filter. By delivering a denser, colder charge of air to your engine, it ensures a more complete combustion, translating into significant gains in power, improved throttle response, and even better fuel economy.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Unleashed Power & Torque: Experience up to a 10% increase in horsepower and torque, transforming your Sierra’s acceleration and towing capabilities.
  • Premium Durability & Flow: Constructed from T304 lightweight aluminum, ensuring superior airflow, corrosion resistance, and a lifetime of performance.
  • Superior Filtration & Air Quality: Delivers exceptional engine protection with a high-flow, reusable filter that traps contaminants while maximizing clean air intake.
  • Instantaneous Throttle Response: Eliminate lag and enjoy a more immediate, crisp throttle feel, making driving more engaging and efficient.
  • Aggressive Engine Note: Enhance your truck’s presence with a deeper, more aggressive engine sound under acceleration, without excessive cabin drone.
  • Cost-Saving & Reusable Filter: Our high-performance air filter is washable and reusable, saving you money on costly replacements for up to 50,000 miles under normal driving conditions.
  • Effortless Installation: Designed for a direct bolt-on fit using basic hand tools, allowing most owners to complete the upgrade in under an hour.
  • Warranty Safe Performance: Enjoy significant performance gains with the peace of mind that this upgrade will not void your vehicle’s factory warranty.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Basic hand tools, but requires patience dealing with 20-year-old heat-cycled plastics on the NBS chassis.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm wrench or 10mm socket (for the battery terminal and heat shield hardware)
  • 8mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet (for factory worm-gear clamps and new T-bolt clamps)
  • Flathead screwdriver (for prying stubborn retaining clips)
  • T20 Torx bit (for factory MAF sensor removal)
  • Panel popper tool (to assist with seized factory airbox grommets)
  • Silicone spray (to lubricate tight aftermarket silicone couplers)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
When removing the factory intake on the 1999-2006 GMC Sierra 4.3L, you will face two major forum-consensus headaches. First, the hard plastic PCV breather line running to the factory intake tube becomes incredibly brittle from decades of under-hood heat; pull it gently or it will snap in half. Second, the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is highly sensitive. NEVER touch the exposed wires or the honeycomb screen inside the MAF. The oil from your skin will bake onto the wire, throwing an immediate lean code and causing a terrible, surging idle. Handle it by the outer plastic housing only.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal on your 1999-2006 GMC Sierra 4.3L using a 10mm wrench. This prevents accidental shorts and forces the ECU to clear old airflow data.
  2. Unplug the Sensors: Locate the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor harness and carefully unclip it. If your early-NBS Sierra has a separate Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor plugged into the factory rubber tube, unplug that harness as well.
  3. Remove the PCV Breather: Gently detach the PCV breather line from the side of the factory intake tube. If it’s stuck, use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry the clip. Do not force it.
  4. Loosen the Clamps: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the factory worm-gear clamps securing the rubber intake tube to the throttle body resonator hat and the factory airbox housing. Pull the rubber tube off and set it aside.
  5. Extract the Factory Airbox: The factory lower airbox is held entirely by tension inside rubber mounting grommets. Grab the base with both hands and pull straight up with steady force. If the 20-year-old rubber is seized, slide a panel popper tool under the base to pry it upward without cracking the plastic tray.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for GMC Sierra 1500 (1999-2006) 4.3L Engine

  1. Assemble and Mount the Heat Shield: Piece together the new aftermarket heat shield using the supplied hardware and a 10mm socket. Line up the shield’s mounting posts with the factory rubber grommets on the fender well and press down firmly to lock it into place.
  2. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Carefully unscrew the factory MAF sensor from the old airbox using a T20 Torx bit. Without touching the internal screen, transfer the MAF to your new intake tube or housing. Secure it using the provided hardware. Crucial Step: Ensure the directional flow arrow stamped on the MAF housing points toward the throttle body.
  3. Install the New Intake Tube: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the throttle body hat and the new air filter tube. If the fitment is tight, hit the inside of the couplers with a quick blast of silicone spray to slide them on without fighting. Position your new T-bolt clamps and tighten them down snugly using your 8mm socket.
  4. Reconnect the PCV and Harnesses: Attach the newly supplied PCV breather hose from the valve cover directly to the machined fitting on your new intake tube. Plug your MAF and IAT wiring harnesses back in until you hear a positive click. Install the high-flow air filter onto the end of the tube and tighten the final clamp with your 8mm socket.
  5. Relearn the ECU: Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm wrench. Turn the key and start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. The 1999-2006 GMC Sierra 4.3L ECU needs this time to read the new intake volume and perform an automatic idle relearn procedure.
