Performance Cold Air Intake Kit for Dodge Nitro (2007-2010) with 3.7L V6 Engine

The stock air intake system in your 2007-2010 Dodge Nitro with the 3.7L V6 engine is designed for quiet operation and cost-efficiency, not maximum performance. Its convoluted bends, resonant chambers, and restrictive paper filter create a significant bottleneck, starving your engine of the cool, dense air it needs to truly perform, especially during heavy acceleration.

This high-velocity Cold Air Intake Induction Kit is precision-engineered to eliminate those restrictions, providing a smooth, direct path for air to reach your engine. By allowing your 3.7L V6 to inhale a greater volume of oxygen-rich air with far less resistance, this system optimizes combustion, delivering instantaneous throttle response and a noticeable surge of power across the RPM range. Beyond the performance gains, you’ll enjoy an aggressive, sporty engine note that truly matches the Nitro’s adventurous spirit.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Unleash Hidden Horsepower & Torque: Improves overall engine efficiency and throttle sensitivity, providing a boost in both horsepower and torque by up to 10% by satisfying your V6 engine’s demand for air during heavy acceleration.
  • Superior Engine Protection: Features a high-flow, washable, and reusable performance air filter engineered to provide maximum airflow while maintaining superior filtration levels to protect critical internal engine components. Requires cleaning only every 50,000 miles.
  • Aggressive Sporty Sound: Maximizes air movement to produce a deeper, more authoritative engine tone during spirited driving, enhancing your driving experience without being overbearing.
  • Enhanced Engine Bay Aesthetics: The premium T304 lightweight aluminum piping and sleek design provide a significant visual upgrade under the hood, reflecting the performance within.
  • Durable & Long-Lasting Construction: Built with premium T304 lightweight aluminum piping to withstand high engine bay temperatures and ensure long-term reliability and consistent performance.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic hand tools required. The factory 3.7L PowerTech airbox is bulky, but swapping it is a straightforward driveway job.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket and 8mm socket
  • 1/4-inch drive ratchet with a 6-inch extension
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Panel popper tool (for plastic harness clips)
  • A drop of soapy water or silicone spray
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
If you spend any time on the Nitro forums, you know the factory 3.7L throttle body "hat" (the massive plastic resonator box) is a headache. There is a hidden 10mm bracket bolt on the backside towards the firewall. If you just yank the hat upward, you will snap the bracket or crack the intake manifold. Find that bolt first! Also, your factory IAT (Intake Air Temp) sensor is seated in 15-year-old brittle plastic—twist it out gently so you don’t break the delicate thermistor tip.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part on your 2007-2010 Dodge Nitro 3.7L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to safely reset.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the Intake Air Temperature sensor on the side of the factory intake tube. Gently press the release tab and pull the connector free. Use your panel popper to carefully pry any harness retaining clips away from the plastic tube so the wires hang completely free.
  3. Loosen the Clamps: Use your 8mm socket or a flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps securing the intake tube to the throttle body and the factory airbox.
  4. Remove the PCV Breather: Unclip the plastic crankcase breather hose from the side of the factory airbox. These plastics get extremely brittle from under-hood heat, so pull straight back, not at an angle.
  5. Extract the Factory Intake & Hat: Grab your ratchet, 6-inch extension, and 10mm socket to unbolt the factory airbox from the fender well. Reach behind the throttle body resonator "hat" to locate and remove that hidden 10mm bolt holding it to the bracket. Pull the entire assembly up and out of the engine bay.
  6. Salvage the IAT Sensor: Gently rotate the factory IAT sensor counter-clockwise and pull it straight out of the OEM plastic tube. Set it somewhere safe where it won’t get crushed.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Dodge Nitro (2007-2010) 3.7L Engine - Blue

  1. Prep the Heat Shield: Assemble the aftermarket heat shield with the provided weather stripping. Secure it to the factory airbox mounting points on the inner fender using your 10mm socket.
  2. Install the Couplers: Slide the provided blue silicone coupler over the throttle body. Slide two hose clamps loosely over the coupler. Snug the throttle body side clamp down with your 8mm socket, but leave the other loose for adjustment.
  3. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Push the supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on your new aluminum intake tube. Put a tiny drop of soapy water on the factory IAT sensor O-ring, and carefully push it into the grommet. Ensure it seats fully.
  4. Seat the Intake Tube: Slide the new blue intake tube into the throttle body coupler. Align it properly through the heat shield opening to ensure it doesn’t rub on any metal, and tighten down the remaining clamp using your 8mm socket.
  5. Mount the Filter & Reconnect Lines: Attach the high-flow air filter to the end of the tube and lock it down firmly with your 8mm socket. Connect the supplied PCV breather hose from the engine valve cover to the welded fitting on the new intake tube.
  6. Power Up & Calibrate: Plug the factory wiring harness back into the IAT sensor. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle. Do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. Let the 2007-2010 Dodge Nitro 3.7L ECU idle on its own so it can properly calibrate the air-fuel ratio to the new cold air volume.
