Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the 2.7L LX platform, the factory IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor sits directly in the plastic intake tube. After years of under-hood heat, the plastic twist-lock tabs become incredibly brittle. Do not yank it out. Gently push in, twist counter-clockwise, and wiggle it free. Furthermore, the factory PCV breather hose is notoriously rigid; use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry it off the valve cover nipple so you don’t snap the plastic port.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and reset the ECU fuel trims.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube. Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull straight back to unplug it.
  3. Loosen the Clamps: Use your 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps securing the intake tube to the throttle body and the airbox lid.
  4. Remove the PCV Breather: Carefully disconnect the crankcase breather hose from the side of the factory intake tube and the engine block.
  5. Extract the Factory Resonator Box: Unbolt the factory airbox using your 10mm socket and 6-inch extension. Lift the entire bulky factory intake and resonator box out of the engine bay. The 2005-2008 Dodge Magnum 2.7L has a massive baffle system here that restricts airflow; removing this will immediately wake up throttle response.
  6. Rescue the IAT Sensor: Gently twist the factory IAT sensor counter-clockwise and pull it out of the OEM tube. Set it aside in a safe, clean location.

  4. Mount the Intake Tube: Slide the red intake tube into the throttle body coupler. Attach the new high-flow cone filter to the other end resting inside the heat shield. Connect the new provided PCV breather hose from the valve cover to the fitting on the intake tube.
  5. Lock It Down: Verify clearance around all pulleys and belts. Once aligned, tighten down all remaining hose clamps firmly with your 8mm socket.
  6. Reconnect and Relearn: Plug the electrical harness back into the IAT sensor. Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. On the first startup, start the engine and do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds while the ECU adjusts to the increased airflow.
