Wake Up Your Workhorse: The Ultimate 6.0L Breathing Treatment
The 2001–2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 HD and 2500 HD are legendary trucks, powered by the renowned 6.0L Vortec V8. This engine is a masterpiece of American engineering—durable, torque-rich, and capable of hundreds of thousands of miles of heavy hauling. However, from the factory, your V8 is forced to breathe through a restrictive plastic box designed to dampen noise rather than generate power.
It’s time to remove the muzzle. The Black Series Performance Cold Air Intake with Heat Shield is engineered specifically to unlock the hidden potential of your 6.0L. By replacing the baffled stock tubing with smooth, mandrel-bent T304 Aluminum, this system delivers a massive volume of cool, dense air directly to your throttle body. Whether you are towing a heavy load up a grade or merging onto the highway, you will feel the difference in throttle response and hear the difference in the deep, aggressive induction roar.
Why Your Silverado Needs the Black Series Upgrade
- Proven Power Gains: This isn't just about sound. By eliminating airflow restrictions, this system is engineered to boost horsepower and torque by up to 10%. That means more pulling power when you need it most.
- Advanced Heat Management: Heat is the enemy of performance. This kit includes a custom-engineered Heat Shield that isolates the air filter from the scorching temperatures of the engine bay, ensuring your engine feeds on cooler, oxygen-rich air for maximum combustion efficiency.
- Built to Last: Your HD truck was built tough, and your parts should be too. The intake piping is constructed from lightweight, corrosion-resistant T304 aluminum, offering superior durability compared to cheap plastic alternatives.
- The V8 Soundtrack: Stop hiding the sound of your American V8. Under normal driving, it remains civilized, but crack the throttle open, and this intake produces a deep, throaty growl that lets everyone know this truck isn't stock.
Technical Specifications
- Vehicle Fitment: 2001–2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 HD & 2500 HD
- Engine Compatibility: 6.0L V8 Only
- Piping Material: T304 Lightweight Aluminum (Black Finish)
- Filtration: High-Flow Performance Filter (Washable/Reusable)
- Performance: Up to 10% Increase in HP and Torque
- Components: Mandrel-Bent Tube, Heat Shield, Couplers, Clamps
The ECU Reset is Critical: Before starting installation, disconnect your Negative Ground Cable. Once the new intake is installed, keep the battery disconnected for at least one minute (we recommend 10-15 minutes) before reconnecting. This clears the engine control module's memory, forcing it to "re-learn" the new airflow parameters immediately for optimal performance.
What's in the Box?
- x1 Black Series T304 Aluminum Intake Pipe
- x1 High-Flow Performance Air Filter
- x1 Custom Heat Shield Assembly
- x1 Complete Hardware Kit (Couplers, Clamps, Mounts)
Your 6.0L Vortec is ready to breathe. Upgrade your Silverado today.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 2/10 - [Beginner friendly. If you can change oil on a Vortec, you can do this.]
Tools You Will Need
- 8mm socket or 5/16" nut driver (Essential for GM hose clamps and side-post battery terminals)
- 10mm socket and ratchet (For airbox mounting plate bolts)
- T20 Torx bit (REQUIRED for removing the factory MAF sensor)
- Flathead screwdriver (For prying delicate harness clips)
- Phillips screwdriver (For new clamps, depending on kit hardware)
- 4mm Allen key (Common for aftermarket hardware)
On the GMT800 platform (2001-2006), the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is directional. Do not install it backward. There is a small arrow molded into the plastic housing that must point toward the engine (airflow direction). If you flip this, your 6.0L will run lean, throw a CEL immediately, and likely go into limp mode. Also, handle the sensor like an egg; the internal filaments are extremely fragile.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Airbox
- Disconnect the Battery: On these 2001-2006 Chevys, use an 8mm wrench (or 5/16") to disconnect the negative battery terminal. This resets the ECU fuel trims for the new airflow.
- Remove Engine Cover: If your 6.0L Vortec still has the "Vortec 6000" cosmetic cover, remove the single 8mm bolt on top and lift it off to expose the throttle body.
- Disconnect Sensors and Hoses: Locate the MAF sensor electrical harness. carefully pull the gray locking tab (if present) and squeeze to unplug. Disconnect the crankcase vent (PCV) hose from the intake tube side.
- Loosen Clamps: Use a flathead screwdriver or 8mm nut driver to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body and the clamp connecting the tube to the MAF housing. Remove the factory intake tube.
- Remove the Airbox: Firmly grasp the factory airbox. On the GMT800, these are held in by friction grommets on a mounting tray. Pull straight up to release the pins from the rubber grommets. Check to ensure the grommets didn’t stick to the box; they need to stay in the tray for the new heat shield.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake Kit
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: This is critical. Use a T20 Torx bit to remove the MAF sensor from the factory housing. Install it into the new intake tube using the supplied hardware. Ensure the arrow points toward the throttle body.
- Install the Heat Shield: Bolt the new heat shield into the factory location using a 10mm socket. Ensure the weather stripping seals tight against the fender to pull cold air from the wheel well, not hot air from the headers (preventing heat soak).
- Mount the Couplers: Slide the silicone coupler onto the throttle body and secure loosely with a hose clamp. Insert the new intake tube into the coupler and align it with the heat shield/filter adapter.
- Reconnect PCV and MAF: Connect the supplied PCV hose from the engine valve cover to the new intake tube fitting. Plug the electrical harness back into the MAF sensor until it clicks.
- Final Lockdown: Align the tube so it does not rub against the alternator or radiator hoses. Tighten all hose clamps until snug (do not overtighten, or you will crack the plastic tube). Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- The "Idle Relearn": Start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal. Let the 6.0L idle for at least 3 minutes. This allows the ECU to recalibrate for the increased airflow without triggering a surge or stall.
Disclaimer: This is a general guide provided for the 2001-2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500/2500 HD with the 6.0L V8. Always refer to your factory service manual for exact torque specifications and safety procedures.
