Give your S-10's 4.3L V6 the breathing room it deserves with a performance cold air intake that delivers up to 10% more power, sharper throttle response, and a distinctive engine note.

More Power, Better Sound – Built for the S-10 Workhorse

The Chevrolet S-10 has earned its reputation as a reliable, versatile compact truck that's equally at home on the jobsite or the backyard trails. Whether you're using your '96-'04 S-10 for daily driving, weekend projects, or light off-roading, the 4.3L Vortec V6 is known for dependable power. But like many factory setups, it's restricted by a conservative intake system designed for maximum quietness over maximum performance.

This cold air intake system breaks free from those factory limitations. By drawing cooler, denser air directly into your engine—and filtering it more efficiently—you'll notice immediate improvements in acceleration and responsiveness. The T304 aluminum construction keeps weight down while the integrated heat shield ensures you're getting genuinely cool air, not hot engine bay temperatures that rob power.

Key Features at a Glance

  • Up to 10% Power Gain: Unlock hidden horsepower and torque your S-10's Vortec V6 was always capable of
  • Premium T304 Aluminum Piping: Lightweight, corrosion-resistant construction that won't add unnecessary weight
  • Integrated Heat Shield: Keeps incoming air cool for consistent power delivery
  • High-Flow Washable Filter: Superior filtration that only needs cleaning every 50,000 miles
  • Enhanced Engine Sound: Enjoy a deeper, more aggressive intake note without being obnoxious

How It's Used: Installation & Fitment

Installation is straightforward for anyone comfortable with basic hand tools. You'll remove your factory air box and install this complete replacement system in under an hour. The kit includes all necessary hardware and fits perfectly on 1996-2004 Chevrolet S-10 Pickups equipped with the 4.3L V6. After installation, disconnect your battery terminal for 30 seconds to let your ECU adapt to the increased airflow—you'll notice the difference right away.

Product Durability & Material Details

T304 aluminum piping resists the temperature swings and vibrations typical in compact truck applications. The washable, high-flow filter combines excellent filtration with long service intervals—a practical choice for trucks that see real work and varying conditions. The heat shield is engineered specifically for the S-10's engine bay layout, ensuring you're pulling fresh air from outside the engine compartment, not recirculating hot air.

Your Benefits at a Glance
  • Instant Performance Improvement: Feel sharper throttle response the moment you start driving
  • Long-Term Cost Savings: Washable filter saves money compared to replacing disposable factory filters
  • Better Engine Efficiency: Improved airflow can contribute to better fuel economy during highway driving
  • Enhanced Driving Experience: Deeper intake sound adds character to your S-10's personality

  • 10mm wrench
  • 8mm nut driver or deep socket
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Panel popper tool (for factory wire loom clips)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 1996-2004 Chevrolet S-10 4.3L Vortec engine features a flat plastic IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor pushed directly into the factory rubber tubing. After two decades of under-hood heat cycles, the retaining tab is incredibly brittle. Do not pry it with a screwdriver. Gently twist and wiggle it free by hand. If you snap it, you will be making a trip to the parts store before your Dime can run right. Additionally, never touch the delicate hot-wire inside the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor during the transfer!

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and safeguard the ECU.
  2. Unplug the Sensors: Locate the MAF sensor and the IAT sensor on your factory intake routing. Slide the grey safety locks back, depress the tabs, and carefully unplug the connectors. Use a panel popper tool to detach the wiring harness from the factory plastic tubing and push it safely aside.
  3. Remove the Breather: Disconnect the PCV breather hose from the side of the factory intake duct. Sometimes this requires a gentle twist to break the vacuum seal.
  4. Ditch the Vortec Hat: That massive, restrictive factory resonator box sitting directly on top of the throttle body is known across the S-series community for choking airflow and getting in the way of basic maintenance. Use an 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps at the throttle body and the MAF sensor. Pull the factory intake hat straight up and off the throttle body.
  5. Extract the Airbox: Remove the factory air filter box from the engine bay. You will need a 10mm socket and an extension to reach the mounting bolts located at the bottom of the tray. Pull the box and the remaining corrugated tubing completely out of the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake Kit for Chevrolet S-10 Pickup (1996-2004) with 4.3L V6 Engine Black

  1. Mount the Heat Shield: Assemble your new heat shield and install the provided rubber edge trim to prevent chafing. Mount the shield into the engine bay using the supplied hardware and your 10mm socket, bolting it directly into the factory airbox mounting holes.
  2. Install the Couplers: Slide the new silicone coupler over the throttle body. Slip the provided band clamps over the coupler and snug them down using an 8mm nut driver, leaving them just loose enough for final angle adjustments.
  3. Transfer the Sensors: Carefully transfer your factory MAF sensor into the new configuration, noting the airflow direction arrow (it must point toward the throttle body). Press the factory IAT sensor into the pre-drilled rubber grommet on the new intake tube. Pro Tip: Use a single drop of soapy water on the grommet if the IAT sensor is fighting you; absolutely do not use silicone spray or petroleum grease.
  4. Lock It Down: Seat the black Cold Air Intake tube into the throttle body coupler and the MAF coupler. Connect the supplied PCV breather hose to the nipple on the new pipe. Once everything is aligned perfectly without rubbing on the alternator casing or fan shroud, tighten all 8mm clamps securely.
  5. Reconnect and Relearn: Plug the MAF and IAT sensor wiring harnesses back into their respective modules. Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm wrench. On the first startup, do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle on its own so the ECU can properly recalibrate fuel trims to handle the increased airflow.
