Feel the immediate rush of improved power and hear the potent growl your Chevrolet Blazer was meant to have. Say goodbye to the sluggish response of your factory intake and unleash your V6’s true potential.
Performance Cold Air Intake System for Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L V6 (1996-2004)
The factory airbox in your 1996-2004 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L V6 is a significant choke point, designed for quiet operation and cost-effectiveness rather than peak performance. Its restrictive design and disposable paper filter limit airflow to the engine, hindering horsepower, torque, and throttle response, leaving your Blazer feeling underpowered and uninspired.
Our high-flow Cold Air Intake System directly replaces this restrictive OEM setup with T304 lightweight aluminum piping and an oversized, reusable filter. By drawing in colder, denser air and maximizing airflow, this kit dramatically boosts your engine’s efficiency, unlocking noticeable gains in power and torque, improving acceleration, and giving your Blazer a much more aggressive engine note.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Maximize Horsepower & Torque: Experience an instant power boost, with gains of up to 10% in both horsepower and torque, transforming your Blazer’s performance.
- Superior Engine Protection & Reusability: Engineered for exceptional filtration, our washable, reusable filter traps more contaminants while flowing more air, requiring cleaning only every 50,000 miles under normal conditions and saving you money on replacements.
- Sharpened Throttle Response & Sound: Enjoy more immediate and responsive acceleration, coupled with a deep, sporty engine growl that enhances your driving experience.
- Easy, Warranty-Safe Installation: Designed for a straightforward, bolt-on installation with basic hand tools in less than 60 minutes, and engineered to not void your vehicle’s warranty.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time: 1996-2004 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L Intake Upgrade
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - Straightforward bolt-on, but requires a delicate touch with aging 4.3L Vortec factory plastics and sensors.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet (For the battery, factory airbox bolts, and throttle body stud)
- 8mm Socket or 5/16-inch Nut Driver (For all hose clamps)
- Flathead Screwdriver (For gentle prying on wire harness clips)
- Panel Popper / Trim Tool (To safely remove push-clips without snapping them)
- Silicone Spray or Soapy Water (To seat the IAT sensor into the new rubber grommet)
If you spend any time on S10/Blazer forums, you know the factory 4.3L Vortec intake "hat" (the giant black plastic resonator on top of the throttle body) is notorious for two things: snapping the brittle PCV fresh air tube, and having a rock-hard Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor grommet. Do not pry the IAT sensor out with a screwdriver. Twist it gently while pulling upwards so you don’t snap the plastic probe. Also, when you remove the factory hat, cover your exposed throttle body with a clean rag immediately so you don’t drop a bolt down into your intake manifold.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory 1996-2004 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L Intake
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench or 10mm socket. This prevents check engine lights and forces the ECU to reset its fuel trims for the new airflow.
- Unplug the Sensors: Locate the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) and the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor on the factory intake tract. Depress the locking tabs and gently pull the connectors free. Use a panel popper to unclip the wire harness from the factory plastic tube.
- Disconnect the PCV Hose: Locate the fresh air breather hose running from the valve cover to the intake resonator. Carefully wiggle and pull the rubber fitting off the intake. Do not force it; 20-year-old GM plastic will crack.
- Remove the Throttle Body Hat: Loosen the wing nut or remove the top mounting bolt using a 10mm socket on top of the throttle body resonator. Loosen the main hose clamp at the MAF sensor using your 8mm socket. Lift the entire resonator assembly off the throttle body. (Foreman’s note: Now is a great time to wipe the carbon off your throttle body butterfly valve using a rag soaked in throttle body cleaner).
- Extract the Factory Airbox: Unbolt the lower factory airbox tray from the passenger side fender well using a 10mm socket. Lift the box up and out of the engine bay.
- Salvage the Sensors: Loosen the clamps holding the MAF sensor to the factory airbox using an 8mm socket and separate it. Twist and pull the IAT sensor out of the factory rubber grommet. Set both sensors safely aside.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Chevrolet Blazer Pickup (1996-2004) 4.3L Engine - Red
- Assemble the Heat Shield: Bolt the new aftermarket heat shield into the factory airbox location on the passenger side fender. Secure it down using the supplied hardware and your 10mm socket. Install the rubber edge trim around the top lip of the shield.
- Transfer the MAF and IAT Sensors: Press the supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole in your new Red intake tube. Spray a tiny amount of silicone lube onto the IAT sensor and firmly press it into the grommet until seated. Slide the silicone couplers onto both ends of your factory MAF sensor and loosely install the hose clamps.
- Mount the Intake Tube: Slide the new Red cold air intake tube into the MAF sensor coupler on one end, and onto the throttle body (or supplied throttle body adapter) on the other. Ensure everything clears the radiator hoses and alternator.
- Lock It Down: Once everything is aligned without binding, tighten down all hose clamps firmly using your 8mm socket. Do not over-tighten and crush the plastic MAF housing. Reconnect the PCV fresh air hose to the welded fitting on the new tube.
- Plug In the Harnesses: Reconnect the electrical pigtails to both the MAF and IAT sensors. Ensure you hear the plastic tabs "click" into place.
- Install the Filter and Reconnect Battery: Slide the high-flow air filter onto the end of the intake tube inside the heat shield and tighten the clamp with your 8mm socket. Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm wrench.
- The Startup Protocol: Start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle so the ECU can read the new MAF data and adjust the air/fuel mixture accordingly. Check for any whistling sounds indicating a vacuum leak at your couplers.
