Tired of your Chevy Blazer's V6 feeling a bit choked up? Unleash its true potential and experience a noticeable improvement in throttle response and power, transforming every drive from mundane to exhilarating.

Performance Cold Air Intake Kit for Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L V6 (1996-2004)

The factory air intake system on your Chevrolet Blazer's 4.3L V6 is often a restrictive bottleneck, designed for quiet operation and cost-efficiency rather than peak performance. Its convoluted tubing and often dense paper filter limit the volume and velocity of cold, oxygen-rich air reaching your engine, directly impacting horsepower and torque.

Our Cold Air Intake Kit directly addresses these limitations by replacing the entire restrictive factory airbox and intake tube with a free-flowing, high-performance system. Utilizing a less restrictive filter and smooth aluminum piping, it allows your 4.3L V6 to breathe easier, drawing in a greater volume of cooler air for more efficient combustion, translating into tangible gains in power and a more responsive accelerator pedal.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Significant Power Gains: Boost your Blazer’s horsepower and torque by up to 10%, giving you more power for passing, towing, or just enjoying the drive.
  • Enhanced Throttle Response: Experience quicker acceleration and a more immediate feel from the gas pedal, making your V6 feel more lively and engaging.
  • Superior Filtration & Airflow: Engineered with a high-flow, washable filter that provides exceptional debris protection while maximizing the volume of air delivered to your engine.
  • Aggressive Engine Sound: Enjoy a deeper, sportier growl from your 4.3L V6 as it breathes more freely, enhancing the overall driving experience.
  • Long-Term Savings: The washable and reusable air filter eliminates the need for frequent replacements, offering a more economical solution over the life of your vehicle.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic bolt-on installation requiring minimal mechanical background.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm deep socket and ratchet (for the battery terminal, airbox bolts, and resonator nut).
  • 8mm socket or 5/16" nut driver (for loosening and tightening all hose clamps).
  • Flathead screwdriver and panel popper (for releasing plastic push-clips and sensor harnesses).
  • T20 Torx bit (if your specific year requires transferring the bare MAF element).
  • Pliers (for the factory PCV breather hose spring clamp).
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 4.3L LU3/L35 Vortec is a reliable workhorse, but the S-Series community universally hates the giant plastic resonator (the "hat") sitting on top of the throttle body. When removing it, be extremely careful with the brittle plastic PCV breather tube that connects to the valve cover—it snaps if you look at it wrong. Additionally, this is the perfect time to clean your factory Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. Do NOT use brake cleaner or compressed air; only use dedicated MAF cleaner, and don’t physically touch the delicate hot wires inside or you’ll trigger a Check Engine Light.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 1996-2004 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and to reset the ECU fuel trims.
  2. Unplug the Sensors: Locate the MAF sensor and the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor on the factory tube. Gently depress the locking tabs with a small flathead screwdriver and pull the plugs free. Tuck the wiring harness safely out of the way so it doesn’t get snagged.
  3. Remove the Vortec "Hat" Resonator: Loosen the central wing nut or the 10mm bolt securing the bulky plastic resonator to the throttle body. Use your 8mm socket to loosen the hose clamp connecting it to the main intake tube, and use your pliers to squeeze the clamp and disconnect the PCV breather line. Lift the hat straight up and off the throttle body.
  4. Extract the Factory Airbox: Remove the 10mm bolts securing the factory airbox to the core support. Once unbolted, grab the box and pull it firmly upward to pop it free from the factory rubber grommets. Remove the entire stock intake tract from the engine bay.
  5. Salvage the MAF Sensor: Using your 8mm socket or T20 Torx (depending on your OEM setup), carefully separate the MAF sensor from the factory plastic housing. Set it aside in a safe, clean location where it won’t be dropped.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake Kit for Chevrolet Blazer Pickup (1996-2004) with 4.3L V6 Engine Blue

  1. Mount the Heat Shield: Drop the new aftermarket heat shield into the space left by the factory airbox. Secure it strictly to the OEM mounting points using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket.
  2. Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slip the new silicone step-coupler over the bare throttle body. Slide two hose clamps over the coupler, but only tighten the throttle body side down snugly using your 8mm socket. Leave the top clamp loose to allow for adjustment.
  3. Transfer the Sensors: Carefully insert your factory MAF sensor into the new setup. If your kit requires transferring the IAT sensor, carefully push it into the provided rubber grommet on the tube. Crucial step: Ensure the directional arrow on the MAF housing points TOWARD the throttle body (indicating airflow direction). Tighten the MAF clamps securely with your 8mm socket.
  4. Seat the Blue Intake Tube: Guide the new blue aluminum pipe into the throttle body coupler, then attach the large high-flow cone filter to the end sitting inside the heat shield. Adjust the pipe so it doesn’t rub against the alternator or hood lining, then tighten all remaining hose clamps firmly with your 8mm socket.
  5. Reconnect PCV and Wiring: Attach the provided silicone PCV hose from the valve cover breather port to the welded nipple on the new intake tube. Reconnect the MAF and IAT sensor wiring harnesses, ensuring you hear them click firmly into place.
  6. Reconnect Battery and Relearn: Reattach the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. Start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. The 1996-2004 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L ECU needs this uninterrupted idle time to calibrate the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve to the new, higher airflow volume.
