Unleash the Spirit of Your L15A i-VTEC: Performance Cold Air Intake for Honda Fit/Jazz (2006-2008)

Who It’s For: Designed specifically for 2006-2008 Honda Fit and Jazz owners running the capable L15A i-VTEC engine, whether you’ve got an automatic or manual. If you’re looking to wake up that little powerplant and get a more engaging drive, this is your ticket.

The Problem: The factory airbox on the L15A i-VTEC, while reliable, is inherently restrictive. It’s designed for quiet operation and cost-efficiency, not maximum airflow or throttle response. This often leads to a somewhat subdued driving experience, especially off the line, and can make the engine feel a bit "choked" when you really want to rev it out. My years turning wrenches on these Honda platforms tell me that freeing up the intake is one of the most impactful first steps for these engines.

The Solution: We engineered this cold air intake system to completely bypass the factory bottlenecks, delivering a consistent, high volume of colder, denser air directly to your L15A i-VTEC. This isn’t just about peak numbers; it’s about a noticeable improvement in throttle response, a more eager pull through the rev range, and that satisfying, sporty induction sound that lets you know your engine is truly breathing freely.

Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade

  • Enhanced Performance & Response: Expect a genuine boost in horsepower and torque, typically in the 6-10% range. More importantly, you’ll feel a much snappier throttle response, making your Fit or Jazz more engaging and fun to drive, especially in city traffic or on twisty roads.
  • Superior Durability & Filtration: Crafted from lightweight, high-grade T304 aluminum piping, this intake not only looks good under the hood but also helps dissipate heat more effectively than plastic. The included high-flow, washable, and reusable air filter is engineered for exceptional filtration while maximizing airflow, saving you money on replacements for years to come.
  • Straightforward DIY Installation: Forget complex modifications. This kit replaces your factory air filter and intake tube directly, designed for a hassle-free installation. Most enthusiasts can get this done in under an hour with basic hand tools, transforming their driving experience without a trip to the shop.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Straightforward bolt-on, but requires navigating the cramped GD3 fender well to remove the factory plastic resonator.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket with a 1/4-inch drive ratchet and a 6-inch extension
  • 8mm socket or dedicated nut driver (for hose clamps)
  • Panel popper tool (to safely remove brittle factory fender liner push-clips)
  • Needle-nose pliers (for dealing with factory spring clamps)
  • Phillips screwdriver
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The factory lower resonator box on the L15A engine is buried in the driver’s side bumper area. Do NOT try to force it up through the engine bay, or you risk cracking brittle factory plastics or bending your AC lines. Pop the inner fender liner clips, peel the liner back, and pull the resonator out from the bottom. Also, treat the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor like glass. Lube the new intake grommet with a single drop of clean engine oil before seating the sensor so you don’t tear the rubber.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal on your 2006-2008 Honda Fit Jazz 1.5L using a 10mm wrench to prevent electrical shorts and check engine lights.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the Intake Air Temperature sensor plugged into the factory rubber intake hose. Depress the plastic tab and carefully pull the wiring harness connector off. Do not pull by the wires.
  3. Disconnect the PCV Breather: Use needle-nose pliers to compress the factory spring clamp on the crankcase breather hose where it meets the intake tube, and slide the hose off.
  4. Remove the Upper Airbox: Use your 8mm socket or Phillips screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp securing the intake tube to the throttle body. Then, use a 10mm socket and extension to remove the bolts holding the upper airbox assembly to the engine bay. Lift the upper airbox and tube out of the vehicle.
  5. Extract the Hidden Resonator: Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right. Use a panel popper tool to remove the push-clips securing the driver’s side inner fender liner. Peel the liner back, locate the remaining 10mm bolts holding the lower factory resonator box to the chassis, remove them, and drop the bulky box out through the wheel well.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake Honda Fit/Jazz (2006-2008) 1.5 1.5L L4 Engines

  1. Prep the Throttle Body: Slip the provided silicone coupler over the factory throttle body. Secure the throttle body side using an 8mm nut driver to tighten the supplied hose clamp. Slide the second hose clamp loosely onto the open end of the coupler.
  2. Route the New Intake Tube: Guide the long end of the new cold air intake pipe down through the engine bay opening into the inner fender well. Slide the top end into the silicone coupler at the throttle body. Line up the welded bracket on the pipe with the factory chassis mounting point.
  3. Secure the Hardware: Thread the provided isolation mount or a 10mm bolt through the intake bracket into the chassis. Hand-thread it first to prevent cross-threading. Tighten the intake bracket and the upper hose clamp at the throttle body using your 10mm socket and 8mm nut driver. Ensure the pipe isn’t rubbing against bare metal.
  4. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Carefully pull the factory IAT sensor out of the old OEM airbox. Insert the supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on your new intake tube. Apply a drop of oil to the inner lip of the grommet, gently push the factory IAT sensor into place, and reconnect the wiring harness.
  5. Install the Pod Filter and PCV Hose: From inside the wheel well, slide the new high-flow air filter onto the end of the intake pipe and lock it down tightly with an 8mm socket. Connect the new provided PCV silicone breather hose from the engine valve cover port to the nipple on the new intake pipe. Reinstall your fender liner push-clips.
  6. The 20-Second Rule: Reconnect your negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the 2006-2008 Honda Fit Jazz 1.5L idle completely undisturbed so the ECU can recalibrate its air-fuel trims to the new, higher volume of airflow.
