Easy Installation

Tools Required: Basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers)

Installation Steps

  1. Remove the factory air box and intake tube
  2. Install the heat shield using provided hardware
  3. Mount the aluminum intake pipe and secure all connections
  4. Attach the cone air filter
  5. Double-check all clamps and connections
  6. Disconnect battery for 30 seconds to reset ECU
  7. Reconnect battery and enjoy your new performance!

Pro Tip: After installation, disconnect your battery for 30 seconds to allow the ECU (Engine Control Unit) to reset and adapt to the increased airflow. This ensures optimal performance and fuel mapping.

Why Upgrade from Factory?

The factory air intake system on your Tacoma prioritizes cost reduction and noise suppression over performance. The restrictive air box and intake tube limit airflow to your engine, leaving power on the table.

Factory Intake Limitations

  • Narrow intake tubing creates turbulence and restriction
  • Paper air filter requires frequent replacement
  • Multiple bends and turns reduce airflow efficiency
  • Heat from engine bay warms incoming air, reducing power
  • Designed for noise reduction, not performance

Our cold air intake system addresses all these issues, delivering cooler, denser air to your engine for measurable performance gains you can feel every time you drive.

Key Features

  • Boosts horsepower by 19-24 HP (8-10% gain)
  • Increases torque by 21-27 lb-ft (8-10% gain)
  • Made from T-304 lightweight aluminum with a polished chrome finish
  • Steel heat shield with carbon-black coating for heat protection and durability
  • High-quality washable & reusable air filter – no need for frequent replacements
  • Improves throttle response at low and mid RPM ranges
  • Produces an intense, deep sporty sound
  • All mounting hardware included – no extra parts needed
  • Easy installation using basic hand tools (under 1 hour)
  • Will not void your vehicle warranty

Performance You Can Feel

This Cold Air Intake Kit replaces your restrictive factory air box, improving airflow and combustion efficiency for noticeable gains in performance and fuel economy. With an estimated 19-24 additional horsepower and 21-27 lb-ft of extra torque, you'll experience better throttle response, enhanced acceleration, and a bold, throaty engine tone every time you hit the gas. Your Tacoma will reach approximately 255-260 HP and 287-293 lb-ft of torque with this upgrade.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic bolt-on, but requires a delicate touch with the factory engine management sensors and old plastics.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm and 12mm sockets
  • Ratchet with a 6-inch extension
  • 8mm nut driver (or flathead screwdriver for clamps)
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver (JIS preferred)
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • 4mm Allen wrench (for aftermarket MAF bolts)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the 2nd Gen Taco (1GR-FE engine), the two factory screws holding the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor are notorious for stripping. Use a perfectly sized #2 Phillips screwdriver (or a JIS bit) and apply firm downward pressure before turning. Additionally, when removing the vacuum hoses from the stock airbox, twist them gently with your pliers before pulling. The plastic nipples on these older factory boxes are extremely brittle from a decade of heat cycling and will snap if you just yank the hoses.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench or 10mm socket to prevent check engine lights and clear the ECU on your 2005-2011 Toyota Tacoma 4.0L.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Depress the plastic tab on the MAF harness and gently pull backward to disconnect. Unclip the factory wire loom routing from the airbox.
  3. Disconnect the Vacuum and CCV Hoses: Using your needle-nose pliers, squeeze the spring clamps on the Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) hose and the smaller vacuum line connected to the factory intake resonator. Slide the clamps back and twist the hoses off carefully.
  4. Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Grab your 10mm socket and loosen the hose clamp securing the factory rubber intake tube to the throttle body.
  5. Extract the Factory Airbox: Using a 12mm socket with a 6-inch extension, remove the bolts securing the lower airbox to the inner fender. Lift the entire 1GR-FE factory air intake assembly straight up to dislodge it from the rubber grommets and remove it from the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor (Crucial Step): Carefully extract the MAF sensor from the factory airbox using your #2 Phillips screwdriver. Do not touch the amber bulb inside the sensor! Transfer it to your new Cold Air Intake tube. Secure it using the provided hardware (usually requires a 4mm Allen wrench). Seat the O-ring fully, but do not overtighten and crush it.
  2. Install the Heat Shield: Drop the aftermarket heat shield into the factory fender mounting locations. Secure it using the provided hardware and your 10mm socket or 12mm socket (depending on the brand’s supplied bolts).
  3. Mount the Silicone Couplers: Slide the provided silicone coupler over the throttle body and tighten the engine side with an 8mm nut driver. Leave the intake-tube side clamp loose for now.
  4. Seat the Intake Tube: Slide the new intake tube into the throttle body coupler and position the filter end through the heat shield. Once perfectly aligned, tighten all remaining hose clamps firmly with your 8mm nut driver. Mount the air filter and clamp it down.
  5. Reconnect Lines and Harness: Push the factory CCV and vacuum lines onto the new intake tube nipples. Re-secure the factory spring clamps with your needle-nose pliers. Plug the factory wire harness back into the MAF sensor until it clicks securely.
  6. Final Startup Procedure: Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. Start the engine, but DO NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. The ECU needs this uninterrupted time to adapt to the new airflow volume and relearn the base idle.
