Unleash the True Potential of Your Boxer Engine

The Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ were built with a singular purpose: to deliver the purest driving experience possible. With a chassis that rivals supercars and a low center of gravity, these "Toyobaru" twins are the spiritual successors to the legendary AE86. However, enthusiasts know that the factory intake system on the 2.0L FA20 engine often leaves performance on the table, prioritizing noise reduction over airflow efficiency.

Wake up your engine with our Performance Cold Air Intake System. Custom-engineered specifically for the 2013–2018 FR-S and BRZ platform, this system replaces the restrictive stock airbox with a free-flowing assembly designed to streamline air induction. By smoothing the air path, your engine breathes deeper, reacts faster, and delivers the power that your chassis deserves.

Why This Upgrade Transforms Your Drive

You didn't buy a sports car to blend in. You bought it to drive. This intake system bridges the gap between your right foot and the engine's reaction time.

  • Sharp Throttle Response: By optimizing the air path to the throttle body, we’ve virtually eliminated the lag found in factory setups. Experience instant feedback the moment you touch the gas.
  • The "Boxer Rumble" You Crave: The factory intake muffles the engine's natural voice. Our system enhances the mechanical induction note, delivering a deep, aggressive growl under heavy throttle that matches the sporty nature of your vehicle.
  • Explosive Power Gains: Using lightweight T-304 aluminum piping, this system dissipates heat rapidly, delivering a denser, oxygen-rich charge to your cylinders. The result? improved combustion efficiency and measurable gains in horsepower and torque.
  • Improved Fuel Efficiency: A happier engine is an efficient engine. By reducing the struggle to draw in air during cruising, you can see improvements in fuel economy during highway driving.

Technical Specifications

  • Material: Mandrel-bent T-304 Aluminum Piping for maximum durability and heat dissipation.
  • Filtration: High-flow, washable, and reusable performance air filter designed to block debris while maximizing air velocity.
  • Design: Bolt-on application designed to replace the OEM air box without permanent modification.

Vehicle Fitment

This system is compatible with both Automatic and Manual transmissions for the following models:

  • Scion FR-S: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016

What’s in the Box?

  • T-304 Aluminum Induction Piping
  • High-Flow Washable Performance Air Filter
  • All necessary silicone couplers, clamps, and hardware

⚠️ Pro Installation Tip for Maximum Performance

Don't skip the reset! Before you begin installation, disconnect the NEGATIVE GROUND CABLE from your battery. Keep it disconnected for at least one minute after you finish the install. This forces the ECU (Engine Control Unit) to reset and relearn the new airflow volume, adjusting fuel mapping immediately to optimize your performance gains. Ensure your engine is completely cool before starting work.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Straightforward bolt-on, but requires extreme care with the sensitive MAF sensor and patience when deleting the factory sound generator tube.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket, ratchet, and a 6-inch extension
  • 10mm wrench (for the battery terminal)
  • Phillips head screwdriver (for the factory MAF screws)
  • 3mm or 4mm Allen key (for aftermarket MAF bolts, depending on the kit)
  • Flathead screwdriver or 5/16 nut driver (for hose clamps)
  • Long-nose pliers (for removing the factory sound tube spring clamps)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The FT86 community consensus agrees on two major headaches for this install: the sensitive MAF and the annoying "Sound Tube." The factory MAF sensor on the FA20 engine is incredibly delicate. If you touch the internal wire element or hit it with brake cleaner instead of dedicated MAF cleaner, you will throw a P0101 code and ruin your idle. Secondly, the factory sound generator tube that pumps artificial intake noise into the cabin is a brittle, over-engineered mess. Yank it out completely, use your long-nose pliers to fight the spring clamp near the firewall, and plug the passenger cabin hole with the provided billet plug or firewall grommet to clean up your engine bay.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal on your 2013-2018 Scion FR-S 2.0L using a 10mm wrench. This prevents check engine lights and forces the ECU to reset its fuel trims.
  2. Extract the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Airflow Sensor on top of the factory intake tube. Depress the plastic tab to unplug the wiring harness. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws securing it. Carefully pull the sensor straight up, place it in a clean Ziploc bag, and set it far away from your work area.
  3. Loosen the Throttle Body and PCV Lines: Use your flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp securing the factory intake tube to the throttle body. Next, use pliers to squeeze and slide back the spring clamp on the PCV breather hose, pulling the hose off the main intake tube.
  4. Disconnect the Sound Tube: Follow the secondary plastic tube branching off the main intake toward the firewall. Use your flathead screwdriver to loosen the clamp holding it to the main tube. Disconnect it so the main airbox is free.
  5. Unbolt and Remove the Airbox: Grab your 10mm socket, ratchet, and extension to remove the three 10mm bolts securing the lower factory airbox to the chassis. Once unbolted, lift the entire factory airbox and intake tube assembly out of the engine bay.
  6. Delete the Sound Generator (Optional but Recommended): Follow the remaining sound tube hardware to the firewall. Unbolt the 10mm bracket securing it to the passenger shock tower using your 10mm socket. Pull the tube out of the firewall and plug the open hole with the cap provided in your new kit.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Scion FR-S (2013-2018) 2.0L Engine

  1. Install the New Heat Shield / Airbox: Drop your new aftermarket heat shield or lower airbox into place. Align it with the factory mounting holes and secure it using your 10mm socket and the provided hardware. Do not overtighten; secure it just enough to prevent rattling.
  2. Mount the Silicone Couplers: Slide the provided silicone coupler over your throttle body. Slip two hose clamps over the coupler. Tighten the throttle body side using your 5/16 nut driver or flathead screwdriver, but leave the intake tube side loose for adjustment.
  3. Route the New Intake Tube: Slide the aftermarket intake tube into the air filter housing, then angle the other end into the throttle body coupler. Once seated correctly, tighten all remaining hose clamps with your 5/16 nut driver. Reconnect the factory PCV breather hose to the new tube port using your pliers on the factory spring clamp.
  4. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Retrieve your MAF sensor from the Ziploc bag. Gently insert it into the precision-machined slot on the new intake tube. Ensure the factory O-ring seats flush to prevent vacuum leaks. Secure it using the newly supplied hardware (typically requiring a 3mm or 4mm Allen key). Reconnect the factory wiring harness until you hear an audible click.
  5. Final Check and ECU Calibration: Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm wrench. Double-check all clamps and bolts. Start the engine. CRITICAL: Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the 2013-2018 Scion FR-S 2.0L idle naturally so the ECU can read the new MAF scaling and adjust to the increased airflow of the FA20 engine without stumbling.
