Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 4th Gen Hemi community universally hates the massive factory intake resonator (the bulky silencer box sitting over the engine). When removing it, you must transfer the factory IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor. Do not pry it straight out. The plastic locking tabs get heat-baked and will snap instantly, leaving you with a check engine light and a dead truck in your driveway. Use a shot of silicone spray and gently twist it back and forth to break the seal before pulling.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights on your 2009-2021 Ram 1500-3500 5.7L.
  2. Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press the release clip, and disconnect the wiring harness. Use a panel popper to pry the harness anchor out of the plastic tube so the wire hangs free.
  3. Disconnect the PCV Breather Hose: Find the crankcase vent hose attached to the side of the factory airbox. Twist firmly while pulling to slide it off the nipple. Do not bend it at an angle, or the aged factory plastic will crack.
  4. Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the factory worm-gear clamp securing the bulky resonator tube to the throttle body.
  5. Extract the Factory Intake Assembly: Locate the single mounting bolt securing the factory airbox to the passenger side fender. Remove it with your 10mm socket. Grab the entire airbox and resonator assembly and lift straight up with force to pop it out of the lower mounting grommets. Pull the entire unit out of the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for RAM Classic (2009-2021) 1500 2500 3500 5.7L Engine

  1. Assemble and Mount the Heat Shield: Install the provided rubber edge trim onto your new aftermarket heat shield. Drop the shield into the engine bay, pressing the mounting pegs down into the factory rubber grommets. Secure it to the fender using the original hardware and your 10mm socket.
  2. Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone coupler onto the factory throttle body. Slide two new hose clamps over the coupler, but only tighten the throttle body side right now using your 8mm socket.
  3. Transfer the IAT Sensor (Crucial Step): Spray a tiny drop of silicone spray around the base of the IAT sensor on the old factory tube. Gently twist and pull until it pops free. Push the new supplied rubber grommet into your aftermarket intake tube, then carefully twist the IAT sensor into the new grommet. Do not push directly on the delicate sensor tip!
  4. Seat the Intake Tube: Slide the new high-flow air filter into the heat shield. Insert the new intake tube into the filter, then pivot the other end into the throttle body coupler. Once aligned, tighten all remaining hose clamps firmly with your 8mm socket. Attach the new supplied PCV breather hose from the engine to the intake tube port. Reconnect the IAT sensor wiring harness and engage the red locking tab.
  5. First Startup Protocol: Reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle, but do not touch the gas pedal for exactly 20 seconds. The 5.7L ECU needs this uninterrupted idle time to read the new IAT parameters and adjust to the massive increase in airflow.
