Optimize Airflow and Induction Sound for your RAM 1500 Pentastar V6

Who It’s For: Designed specifically for 2013-2019 RAM 1500 and RAM 1500 Classic owners running the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine who want to improve towing efficiency and throttle response.

The Problem: The factory airbox on the Pentastar V6 is designed for silence, not performance. It uses a restrictive pleated paper filter and a corrugated plastic intake tube that creates air turbulence, leading to sluggish low-end response and heat soak during heavy use.

The Solution: We engineered this intake system to eliminate those factory bottlenecks. By utilizing a smooth-bore T-304 aluminum pipe and a dedicated heat shield, we provide a high-velocity path for cooler air to reach the manifold, correcting the factory’s conservative air-delivery design.

Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade

  • Enhanced Power Output: This air intake kit is dyno-estimated to increase horsepower by 7-10% and torque by 6-8% by allowing the engine to breathe without the factory restrictions.
  • Heat Management: The included steel heat shield features a durable carbon-black powder coating, designed to isolate the high-flow filter from radiant engine bay heat and debris.
  • Premium Construction: Built with polished T-304 lightweight aluminum piping for maximum durability and a deep, sporty induction note under heavy acceleration.
  • Sustainable Filtration: Features a high-quality, washable, and reusable cone air filter, eliminating the need for restrictive paper replacements.
  • Straightforward Installation: This is a true bolt-on kit. No additional parts or permanent modifications are required for a perfect fit using standard hand tools.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Straightforward driveway bolt-on with basic hand tools.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket & ratchet (Negative battery terminal and chassis ground access)
  • 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver (Intake worm-drive hose clamps)
  • Small flathead screwdriver or 90-degree pick (Releasing the red IAT harness locking tab)
  • Panel popper tool (Releasing wire loom clips from the stock airbox)
  • Silicone spray or soapy water (Eases grommet and coupler insertion)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 3.6L Pentastar uses a quarter-turn twist-lock Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor mounted in the stock intake tube. Underhood heat cycles make this plastic extremely brittle. Slide the red safety lock back gently using a small flathead screwdriver, depress the release tab, and carefully rotate the sensor counter-clockwise 90 degrees to slide it out. Do NOT yank or pry on the sensor body, or the locking ears will shear off, forcing a trip to the parts store.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and clear short-term fuel trims on your 2013-2018 Ram 1500 3.6L.
  2. Disconnect the IAT Sensor: Locate the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor on the side of the factory intake tube. Slide back the red locking tab with a small pick or screwdriver, squeeze the harness connector, and pull it free.
  3. Disconnect the CCV Breather: Unclip the crankcase breather line attached to the factory resonator box by squeezing the quick-release collar and pulling straight back. Use a panel popper to unclip any wiring harness anchors attached to the stock intake resonator.
  4. Loosen Throttle Body Clamp: Loosen the OEM hose clamp securing the intake tube to the throttle body using an 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver.
  5. Remove OEM Airbox & Tube: Firmly pull straight up on the factory lower airbox assembly to pop the three mounting prongs out of the factory rubber fender grommets. Lift the complete intake tube, resonator, and airbox out of the engine bay as one unified assembly. Check the fender well to ensure the OEM rubber grommets did not pull out of the sheet metal.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for 2013-2018 Ram 1500 3.6L

  1. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Install the supplied rubber grommet into the pre-drilled hole on your new intake tube. Lightly lubricate the OEM IAT sensor O-ring and gently press the sensor straight into the grommet, ensuring the probe faces incoming airflow.
  2. Mount the Heat Shield / Airbox: Align the mounting studs on the bottom of the aftermarket heat shield with the factory rubber grommets in the inner fender. Press down firmly until fully seated.
  3. Install Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the silicone reducer coupler onto the throttle body along with the provided hose clamps. Tighten the throttle body side clamp snugly using an 8mm nut driver—do not overtighten, as excessive torque can distort the composite throttle body neck.
  4. Fit the Intake Tube & Breather: Slide the new intake pipe into the throttle body coupler and through the heat shield pass-through grommet. Connect the factory crankcase breather hose to the new intake bung until it audibly clicks. Reconnect the IAT electrical harness and push the red locking tab down to secure it.
  5. Install Filter & Initial Startup: Slide the high-flow conical filter onto the intake tube velocity stack inside the heat shield and tighten the clamp with an 8mm nut driver. Reconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Start the engine and do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds; allow the PCM to stabilize and map the baseline idle airflow trims for the new intake volume.
