Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The VQ40DE platform is notorious for brittle plastic clips and stripped MAF sensor housings. When transferring your factory Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor to the new intake pipe, hand-thread the screws first to avoid cross-threading into the aluminum boss. Also, inspect the rubber O-ring on the sensor body; if it rolls or tears upon insertion, you will end up with unmetered air entering the engine and an immediate P0171/P0174 lean code on your D40 Frontier.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: On your 2005-2019 Nissan Frontier 4.0L, use a 10mm wrench to loosen and remove the negative (-) battery terminal. Tuck it aside to prevent accidental contact and to reset fuel trims.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Nissan Frontier (2005-2019) 4.0L V6 Engine Black

  1. Transfer the Factory MAF Sensor: Carefully remove the two screws securing the MAF sensor to the OEM airbox lid using a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Slide the sensor straight out without touching the delicate hot-wire element.   5. Reconnect MAF Sensor and Battery: Plug the factory MAF electrical connector firmly into the sensor until it clicks. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten it with a 10mm wrench.
  6. Initial Startup Protocol: Start the engine. DO NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 to 30 seconds. Allow the VQ40DE ECU to calibrate its idle air volume and baseline fuel trims smoothly. Check for any vacuum leaks or whistling around couplers before your test drive.
