Feel the immediate rush of responsive power and breathe new life into your Nissan 370Z’s legendary VQ37VHR engine. Say goodbye to sluggish acceleration and unlock the true performance potential engineered into your Z-car.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z (2009-2019) 3.7L VQ37VHR Engine

The factory airbox and intake tube in your Nissan 370Z, while adequate for daily driving, are designed with noise suppression and cost-efficiency in mind, often creating internal restrictions that choke your 3.7L V6 engine’s ability to breathe freely. These narrow, convoluted pathways limit the volume and velocity of incoming air, preventing your Z from delivering its full horsepower and torque potential.

This premium cold air induction system directly addresses these limitations, replacing the restrictive OEM components with a high-flow, smooth-bore intake pathway. By utilizing high-velocity piping and an integrated heat shield, it pulls in a larger volume of cooler, denser air from outside the hot engine bay. This optimized airflow ensures your VQ37VHR engine receives the oxygen it craves, leading to more complete combustion, a noticeable boost in power, and sharper throttle response.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Significant Power Gains: Experience a measurable increase in horsepower and torque, boosting performance by up to 10% for exhilarating acceleration.
  • Optimized Cold Air Supply: The dedicated heat shield effectively isolates the filter from engine bay heat, ensuring only cool, dense air reaches your engine for maximum power.
  • Enhanced Throttle Response: Eliminate the factory lag with a free-flowing design that delivers immediate power when you hit the gas, making your 370Z feel more agile and responsive.
  • Improved Fuel Efficiency: A better balanced air-to-fuel ratio leads to a more efficient burn, potentially improving your overall fuel economy under normal driving conditions.
  • Aggressive Engine Note: Transform your 370Z’s sound with a deeper, more pronounced intake growl during acceleration, adding to the sporty driving experience.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 90-120 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 5/10 - Dropping the Z34 front fascia for a true cold air intake routing is tedious, but completely manageable for a driveway warrior. You are doing the work twice for the VQ37VHR twin-intake system.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm deep socket with a 6-inch extension (for battery, airboxes, and hidden fascia bolts)
  • 8mm socket or nut driver (for hose clamps)
  • Panel popper tool (for factory push-pins)
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver (JIS standard preferred for factory MAF screws)
  • 3mm or 4mm Allen wrench (for aftermarket MAF hardware)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The VQ community headache: Stripping the MAF sensor screws. Nissan uses JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screws, not standard Phillips. A standard Phillips will cam out and strip the soft metal heads if you aren’t careful. Apply firm downward pressure before turning. Secondly, the VQ37 MAF sensors are incredibly sensitive—do not drop them or touch the internal wire elements, or you will trigger an immediate limp mode.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal on your 2009-2019 Nissan 370Z 3.7L using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights.
  2. Drop the Front Fascia: Using your panel popper, remove all the plastic push-clips along the top radiator shroud and underneath the belly pan. Pull back the front wheel well liners to access and remove the hidden fender bolts using your 10mm socket and extension. Carefully unclip the bumper and set it aside on a soft blanket.
  3. Detach the Corrugated Tubes: Loosen the factory hose clamps at the throttle bodies and the airboxes using your 8mm socket. Disconnect the PCV breather hoses from both intake tubes.
  4. Remove the Factory Airboxes: Unbolt the driver and passenger side airbox housings from the core support using your 10mm socket. Lift the bulky factory dual-intake assembly entirely out of the Z34’s engine bay.
  5. Extract the MAF Sensors: Carefully unscrew the Mass Air Flow sensors from the factory housings using your #2 Phillips screwdriver. Gently pull them straight out and set them somewhere safe in a clean zip-lock bag.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Nissan 370Z (2009-2019) 3.7L Engine - Black

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensors: Gently insert your factory MAF sensors into the new black aftermarket intake tubes. Secure them using the provided hardware and your Allen wrench. Ensure the factory O-rings are seated completely flush to prevent the vacuum leaks that frequently plague VQ37 builds.
  2. Route the New Piping: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the dual 3.7L throttle bodies. Carefully thread the new aluminum cold air tubes down through the core support openings so the ends sit right in front of the crash bar.
  3. Secure the Clamps and Brackets: Fit the tubes into the throttle body couplers and snug the worm-gear clamps using your 8mm socket. Align the welded intake brackets with the factory mounting points and tighten them down using your 10mm socket.
  4. Mount the High-Flow Filters: Attach the pod filters to the ends of the tubes sitting behind where the grille will be. Tighten the filter clamps securely with your 8mm socket. Reconnect the PCV breather hoses to the new tubes.
  5. Reassemble and Learn: Reinstall the front fascia by popping all factory clips back into place and securing the hidden fender bolts with your 10mm socket. Reconnect the battery. On the very first startup, the vehicle gas pedal should not be touched for 20 seconds. Let the car idle so the ECU can adjust to the drastically increased airflow.
