The 3G Eclipse 3.0L (6G72) utilizes a sensitive Karman-Vortex Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor assembly housed in a cast plastic casing. Do not drop, bang, or spray harsh solvent cleaners into the internal honeycomb grid or sensor mirror. When unbolting the MAF housing from the factory airbox, support the weight of the sensor directly so you do not snap the brittle factory plastic mounting ears.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm open-end wrench. This resets fuel trims and prevents accidental short circuits or check engine lights on your 2000-2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse 3.0L.
