Tired of your Mazda 3 2.5L feeling held back by its stock intake? Unlock its true potential with an immediate surge in responsiveness, a noticeable power bump, and a deeper, more aggressive engine note you’ll love.
Performance Cold Air Intake for Mazda 3 (2.5L Skyactiv-G)
The factory intake system in your 2014-2017 Mazda 3 2.5L is severely restrictive, prioritizing quiet operation over maximizing engine airflow. This design bottleneck chokes the engine’s ability to breathe freely, particularly under acceleration, limiting the true power and efficiency of your Skyactiv-G powerplant during daily commuting or spirited driving.
Our precision-engineered Cold Air Intake system directly addresses these limitations. By replacing the convoluted stock air box with smooth, high-grade T304 aluminum piping and a high-flow filter, it ensures a constant, unimpeded flow of cooler, oxygen-dense air. An integrated thermal heat shield further isolates the intake from engine bay heat, guaranteeing consistent performance gains and sharper throttle response across the entire RPM range, resulting in a noticeable boost in horsepower and torque.
Why You Need This Upgrade
- Enhanced Power & Torque: Experience an immediate boost in horsepower and torque for sharper acceleration and improved passing power.
- Optimized Fuel Efficiency: Promote a cleaner burn by optimizing air-to-fuel ratios, potentially leading to better fuel economy under cruising conditions.
- Instant Throttle Response: Eliminate intake lag, delivering a more direct and exciting connection between your foot and the engine’s power.
- Aggressive Engine Note: Transform your Mazda 3’s sound with a deeper, more resonant and aggressive intake growl under acceleration.
- Consistent Airflow: Maintain steady, high-velocity air induction, ensuring reliable and repeatable performance in all driving conditions.
- Superior Filtration: Protect your engine with advanced high-flow filtration media that effectively blocks harmful contaminants while maximizing air volume.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic hand tools required. The BM/BN chassis requires patience when dealing with the sensitive Skyactiv electronics and factory plastics.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm socket and ratchet (for the battery and heat shield bolts)
- 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver (for the intake hose clamps)
- Phillips head screwdriver (for the MAF sensor)
- Panel popper tool (for the factory air scoop push clips)
- Pliers (for the PCV breather hose spring clamp)
The 2014-2017 Mazda 3 2.5L utilizes a highly sensitive Skyactiv Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. The forum consensus is clear: dropping this sensor or getting dirt on the element will cause instant erratic idling and throw a CEL. Handle it like glass. Additionally, the factory airbox is held into the engine bay by rubber friction grommets. Spray a tiny bit of soapy water at the base of the box before yanking it up, or you’ll tear the rubber isolators right out of the chassis.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket to prevent check engine lights on your 2014-2017 Mazda 3 2.5L.
- Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the MAF sensor on the factory airbox. Depress the plastic tab on the harness and pull straight back. Do not pull by the wires. Tuck the harness safely out of the way.
- Remove the Fresh Air Duct: Use your panel popper tool to carefully pry up the centers of the two plastic push clips holding the front air scoop to the radiator core support. Lift the scoop away.
- Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the factory hose clamp securing the corrugated rubber intake tube to the throttle body.
- Disconnect the Breather Hose: Use your pliers to squeeze the spring clamp on the PCV breather hose attached to the intake tube. Slide the clamp back and pull the hose off. Be gentle—these plastic fittings get brittle from under-hood heat.
- Extract the Factory Airbox: Grab the entire factory airbox assembly firmly with both hands and pull straight up to dislodge it from the rubber mounting grommets. Remove the entire assembly from the engine bay.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Mazda 3 (2014-2017) 2.5L Engine Blue
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using a Phillips head screwdriver, carefully remove the two screws holding the MAF sensor in the factory box. Gently pull the sensor out and insert it into your new aftermarket intake tube. Secure it using the supplied hardware and your Phillips head screwdriver. Tighten until snug, but do not overtighten and strip the threads.
- Mount the Heat Shield: Drop the new heat shield into the engine bay, aligning it with the factory mounting holes. Secure it down using your 10mm socket and the provided hardware.
- Install the Blue Intake Tube: Slide the provided silicone couplers over the throttle body and the new intake tube. Position the tube so it does not rub against any metal brackets or brake lines. Once aligned perfectly, lock it down by tightening all hose clamps with an 8mm socket.
- Reconnect the Lines: Push the PCV breather hose onto the new aluminum fitting and secure it with the factory spring clamp using your pliers. Snap the MAF sensor wiring harness back onto the sensor until you hear an audible click.
- Reconnect the Battery & Calibrate: Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm socket. On the first startup, the vehicle gas pedal should not be touched for 20 seconds until the ECU adjusts to the new, higher volume of airflow. Let the car idle completely up to operating temperature.
