The TF chassis Optima (Theta II engine) has a notoriously brittle plastic Bypass Valve (BPV) recirculation tube. When pulling the factory hoses, do not just yank them. Use a pick or flathead to break the rubber seal first, then gently twist. If you muscle it, you will snap the BPV nipple. Also, the factory push-pins on the ram air duct break easily—use a proper panel popper, not a screwdriver.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights on your 2011-2015 Kia Optima 2.0L.
- Remove the Fresh Air Duct: Grab your panel popper and carefully pry up the center of the two plastic push-pins securing the factory ram air scoop to the core support, then pull the duct free.
- Disconnect the Hoses: Locate the PCV breather hose and the BPV recirculation hose connected to the factory intake tube. Use your hose clamp pliers to pinch and slide back the factory spring clamps. Gently twist the hoses by hand to break the seal and pull them off the tube.
