Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On both P10 and P11 chassis SR20DE engines, the factory MAF harness connector and surrounding vacuum lines become extremely heat-brittle over time. Never pry the MAF connector with metal tools—depress the retaining clip carefully by hand. Additionally, never spray cleaner directly onto or physically touch the delicate hot-wire filament inside the MAF housing during transfer, or you will trigger an instant P0100 DTC code and limp mode.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part on the 1991-2002 Infiniti G20 2.0L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to reset fuel trims and prevent electrical short circuits.
  2. Disconnect the MAF Sensor Harness: Locate the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor mounted between the airbox and the intake accordion tube. Carefully depress the harness locking tab and pull the connector straight back.
  3. Disconnect Breather and Vacuum Hoses: Using pliers, slide back the factory spring clamp securing the crankcase PCV breather hose to the stock intake tube and pull the hose free.
  4. Remove the Factory Intake Tube: Loosen the two hose clamps at the throttle body and MAF housing using a flathead screwdriver or 8mm nut driver. Wiggle the brittle OEM rubber accordion duct off the throttle body and remove it from the bay.
  5. Unbolt and Remove the OEM Airbox: Remove the three mounting bolts securing the lower airbox to the inner fender well using a 10mm socket with an extension and a 12mm socket for the lower support bracket. Lift the entire airbox assembly out of the engine bay.
  6. Unbolt the MAF Sensor Housing: Using a 10mm socket and 10mm wrench, unbolt the four retaining bolts securing the aluminum/plastic MAF sensor housing to the factory air filter box. Set the bare MAF housing on a clean, soft surface.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Infiniti G20 (1991-2002) 2.0L Engine

  1. Assemble the MAF Adapter: Bolt the aftermarket MAF adapter plate to the factory SR20DE MAF housing using the supplied hardware and a 10mm wrench. Ensure the airflow direction arrow on the MAF housing points toward the engine throttle body.
  2. Mount Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the silicone intake coupler onto the throttle body inlet. Snug the clamp using an 8mm nut driver, but leave it loose enough for rotational adjustment.
  3. Position the Intake Piping: Insert the new cold air intake pipe into the throttle body coupler, align the mounting bracket with the factory chassis ground or airbox hole, and bolt it loosely with a 10mm socket.
  4. Install MAF and Air Filter: Connect the MAF assembly to the intake pipe using the silicone transition coupler and attach the conical performance air filter to the MAF adapter inlet. Tighten all worm-gear clamps securely with an 8mm nut driver without crushing the aluminum piping.
  5. Reconnect Lines and Harness: Reattach the PCV breather hose to the intake bung using pliers. Plug the factory MAF wiring harness firmly into the sensor housing until the locking tab audibly clicks.
  6. Reconnect Battery and Perform Initial Idle Learn: Reconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Start the engine, but DO NOT touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Allow the Nissan ECU to sample the new unmetered air density and settle into a smooth base idle before driving.
