Tired of your Hyundai Accent feeling sluggish and uninspired? Unlock the hidden potential beneath your hood with an upgrade that delivers instant gratification and a more spirited driving experience.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Hyundai Accent (2011-2015) 1.6L GDI

The factory air intake system in your Hyundai Accent 1.6L is engineered for quiet operation and cost-efficiency, not for maximum performance. This often results in a restrictive air path, heated intake air, and significant turbulence within the stock airbox and piping, which collectively choke your engine’s ability to breathe freely and generate optimal power.

This precision-engineered cold air intake system directly addresses these limitations by replacing the entire restrictive OEM setup. It draws in colder, denser air from outside the engine bay, channeling it through a high-flow, low-restriction filter and a smoothly contoured induction tube. This optimized airflow provides your engine with a cooler, oxygen-rich charge, leading to more efficient combustion, significant horsepower and torque gains, and sharper throttle response.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Enhanced Power Output: Boosts horsepower and torque by up to 10%, translating to improved acceleration and a more responsive feel across the RPM range for your 1.6L GDI engine.
  • Optimal Thermal Management: Engineered to pull cooler ambient air, ensuring a denser air charge for maximum combustion efficiency and consistent power delivery even under demanding conditions.
  • Instant Throttle Response: Eliminates intake bottlenecks and turbulence, providing a streamlined path for air that results in a quicker, more direct connection between your foot and the engine’s reaction.
  • Aggressive Engine Tone: Enhances the induction sound under acceleration, giving your Hyundai Accent a sportier, more engaging auditory experience without excessive cabin noise during normal driving.
  • Superior Filtration: Features a high-performance, reusable air filter designed to capture harmful contaminants while maintaining maximum airflow, protecting your engine and extending service intervals.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Mechanically straightforward, but requires some strategic maneuvering to extract the bulky factory resonator out of the front fender cavity.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm and 12mm sockets with a 3/8" ratchet
  • 10-inch or longer socket extension (critical for the hidden lower bolts)
  • 8mm socket or nut driver (for the aftermarket T-bolt clamps)
  • Pliers (for pinching OEM spring clamps)
  • Plastic panel popper (for brittle factory retaining clips)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The biggest headache on the 2011-2015 Hyundai Accent 1.6L RB chassis is the massive plastic intake resonator buried inside the driver’s side bumper void. The community forum consensus usually claims you need to rip the entire front bumper off to get it out. You don’t. Turn your steering wheel completely to the right, pop out the front plastic push-clips in the driver’s wheel well with your panel popper, and peel back the fender liner. You can easily reach the hidden 10mm bolt with a long extension. Also, be incredibly gentle with the factory fresh air scoop clips on the radiator support—they become highly brittle after a few engine heat cycles and will snap instantly if you pry them with a flathead screwdriver.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2011-2015 Hyundai Accent 1.6L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent accidental shorts and check engine lights.
  2. Remove the Fresh Air Scoop: Use your panel popper to carefully lift the center pins of the two plastic retaining clips holding the air scoop to the radiator support. Pull the scoop free and set it aside.
  3. Disconnect the PCV Breather Hose: Locate the rubber breather hose running from the engine valve cover to the factory intake tube. Use your pliers to squeeze the metal spring clamp, slide it backward, and pull the hose off the tube. Do not yank the hose aggressively, or you risk cracking the plastic PCV valve housing on the engine.
  4. Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Grab your 10mm socket and loosen the factory worm-gear clamp securing the rubber intake hose to the throttle body. Unclip any sensor wiring harnesses attached to the airbox housing.
  5. Unbolt and Extract the Airbox: Remove the three 10mm bolts securing the upper and lower airbox assembly to the engine bay. Lift the primary airbox out. Finally, use your 10-inch extension and 10mm socket to unbolt the hidden lower resonator from the inner fender cavity (as mentioned in the Pro Tip) and wrestle it completely out of the vehicle.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Hyundai Accent (2011-2015) 1.6L Engine

  1. Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the provided silicone coupler onto your throttle body. Secure the inner clamp over the throttle body using an 8mm socket. Leave the outer clamp loose for now.
  2. Prep the Aftermarket Intake Tube & Sensors: Before dropping the new pipe into the engine bay, install any provided rubber grommets or brass fittings for the PCV hose. If your specific kit requires transferring a factory MAP or IAT sensor from the OEM tubing, unscrew it delicately, wipe it clean, lubricate the O-ring with a tiny drop of clean engine oil, and seat it into the new tube gently to avoid tearing the seal.
  3. Mount the Intake Tube: Slide the new cold air intake pipe into the silicone throttle body coupler. Position the pipe so it safely clears the battery, brake lines, and engine cover, then tighten the outer clamp down securely with your 8mm socket.
  4. Secure the Air Filter and Breather: Slide the aftermarket high-flow cone filter onto the end of the intake pipe and tighten the filter clamp with an 8mm socket. Reconnect your factory PCV breather hose to the welded nipple on the new intake tube, securing it with the OEM spring clamp using your pliers. If your kit includes a stabilization bracket, bolt it to the factory airbox mounting hole using a 10mm socket.
  5. Perform the ECU Relearn Procedure: Reconnect your negative battery terminal and double-check that all clamps are tight. Start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle so the Gamma 1.6L GDI engine’s ECU can register the increased airflow, adapt its parameters, and calibrate the air/fuel ratios properly without throwing a code.
