Installation Note: After installation, disconnect the negative battery terminal for at least 60 seconds to allow the ECU to reset and adapt to the increased airflow. Always disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is completely cool before performing installation.

Filter Maintenance

Inspection Schedule: Inspect the air filter every 5,000 miles and clean if necessary. Driving conditions such as dusty environments, urban traffic, or aggressive driving may require more frequent inspection and servicing.

Cleaning Procedure: Remove the filter from the intake tube and gently tap it to dislodge loose debris. Apply a suitable air filter cleaning solution to both the inside and outside of the filter media and allow it to soak for approximately 10 minutes.

Rinse the filter using low-pressure water from the clean side outward until the water runs clear. Shake off excess water and allow the filter to air dry completely in a clean environment. Once dry, apply air filter oil evenly according to product specifications and allow the oil to wick through the media for approximately 20 minutes before reinstalling. Do not oil a wet filter.

Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the 1999-2000 Honda Civic 1.6L Si (B16A2), the OEM Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is pressed directly into the rubber factory intake tube. Do NOT pry on the plastic body with metal tools or pull by the wiring harness; these 20+ year-old Honda sub-harness clips are extremely brittle. Gently lubricate the rubber grommet around the sensor with a dab of soapy water or silicone spray and twist the sensor housing out using your bare hands to avoid cracking the plastic connector housing.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 1999-2000 Honda Civic 1.6L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent electrical shorts and reset the ECU baseline trim values.
  2. Unplug and Remove the IAT Sensor: Locate the 2-pin Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor on the side of the factory intake arm. Depress the release tab on the wiring clip gently and disconnect the harness. Carefully wiggle the sensor out of its rubber grommet and set it aside in a clean tray.
  3. Disconnect the Crankcase Breather: Use needle-nose pliers to slide back the spring clamp on the valve cover breather hose, then pull the rubber hose off the OEM intake tube port.
  4. Remove the Upper Airbox: Using a 10mm socket, loosen the hose clamp securing the intake tube to the throttle body. Use a 10mm socket with a 6-inch extension to remove the factory airbox mounting bolts, then lift the upper tube and air filter housing out of the engine bay.
  5. Drop the Lower Resonator Box: Turn the front wheels fully to the left. Using a trim panel popper tool, remove the plastic retaining clips on the front passenger inner fender liner and pull the liner back. Reach up to access the OEM resonator box (“milk jug”) and remove the mounting bolts using a 10mm socket and extension. Drop the resonator assembly out through the bottom splash guard opening to clear space for the new cold air tube.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake

  1. Install the Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the silicone reducer/coupler onto the throttle body opening. Secure it using an 8mm nut driver or flathead screwdriver on the worm-gear clamp. Leave it slightly loose for final rotational adjustment.
  2. Mount the Intake Tube and Filter: Guide the lower cold air intake pipe down through the chassis hole into the fender well void where the OEM resonator was removed. Attach the high-flow air filter element to the end of the lower pipe inside the bumper cavity and tighten its clamp using an 8mm socket. Connect the upper intake pipe to the throttle body coupler.
  3. Secure the Vibration Mount: Align the bracket on the intake tube with the factory chassis mounting point. Fasten the provided rubber anti-vibration mount and lock nut using a 10mm wrench to keep the tube from rattling against the chassis inner fender cut-out.
  4. Reinstall the IAT Sensor and Breather: Insert the factory rubber grommet into the pre-drilled bung on the new intake pipe. Push the OEM IAT sensor firmly into the grommet until fully seated, then reconnect the 2-pin harness connector until it clicks. Connect the supplied silicone or OEM vacuum line from the valve cover breather port to the intake tube nipple using needle-nose pliers.
  5. Tighten Hardware and ECU Relearn: Reinstall the fender liner using your trim panel popper to seat the push clips. Double-check all clamp tightness with your 8mm nut driver, ensuring no metal-on-metal chassis contact. Reconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle and let it idle for 20 seconds without touching the gas pedal so the ECU can adapt to the increased airflow profile.
