Feeling your Civic’s acceleration fall flat, especially at higher RPMs? Imagine a breath of fresh air for your engine, delivering instant throttle response and a satisfying growl every time you hit the gas.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Honda Civic (2012-2015) 2.4L K24Z7

The factory air box and intake tubing on your 2012-2015 Honda Civic 2.4L (K24Z7 engine) are designed for quiet operation and cost-efficiency, not maximum performance. This stock setup creates significant airflow restrictions, starving your engine of the cool, dense air it needs to truly unleash its potential, especially during spirited driving or high-RPM shifts.

Our high-flow Cold Air Intake system directly addresses these limitations by replacing the restrictive OEM components with a wide-diameter, smooth-bore induction pipe and a high-performance conical air filter. This optimized path allows your K24Z7 engine to draw in a massive volume of cooler, oxygen-rich air, resulting in noticeable gains in horsepower and torque, sharper throttle response, and a more aggressive engine note.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Significant Power Gains: Boosts horsepower and torque by an estimated 7-10% for a truly noticeable performance jump across the power band.
  • Sharpened Throttle Response: Eliminates airflow bottlenecks, delivering immediate and crisp throttle feedback for faster acceleration and improved drivability.
  • Aggressive Engine Tone: Transforms your Civic’s factory drone into a deep, exhilarating growl under heavy acceleration, enhancing your driving experience.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Straightforward bolt-on, but requires patience with brittle plastics and sensitive electronics in the K24Z7 engine bay.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm and 8mm deep sockets with a 3/8-inch drive ratchet and extension
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver (JIS standard preferred for factory Japanese hardware)
  • Panel popper tool (for plastic wiring harness clips)
  • Needle-nose pliers (for factory spring clamps)
  • 5/16-inch nut driver (for aftermarket worm-gear clamps)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 9th Gen Civic community knows the factory MAF sensor screws on the K24 engine are notorious for stripping. Do not use a worn-out screwdriver; use firm downward pressure. Also, the factory rubber PCV breather hose heat-bakes onto the plastic intake tube over time. Twist it gently with pliers to break the seal before pulling, or you will tear the rubber.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and protect the ECU.
  2. Disconnect the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow sensor on the factory intake tube. Press the release tab and unplug the harness. Use a panel popper to gently pry the wire harness clips off the airbox so the wiring is completely free and out of the way.
  3. Remove the Breather Hose: Use needle-nose pliers to pinch the spring clamp on the factory rubber breather hose attached to the intake tube. Slide the clamp back, twist the hose to break the heat seal, and pull it off.
  4. Loosen the Throttle Body Clamp: Grab your 8mm socket and loosen the metal band clamp securing the corrugated factory rubber hose to the throttle body.
  5. Extract the Factory Airbox: Remove the two 10mm bolts securing the lower airbox housing to the chassis. Lift the entire 2012-2015 Honda Civic 2.4L airbox assembly firmly straight up to pop it out of the lower rubber mounting grommets. Ensure the factory rubber grommets stay in the chassis, not stuck to the bottom of the box.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Honda Civic (2012-2015) 2.4L Engine - Black

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Carefully unscrew the MAF sensor from the factory airbox using a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Pull it straight out without touching the delicate exposed element wires. Insert it into the billet housing on your new intake tube and secure it using the supplied hardware and a hex key.
  2. Mount the Heat Shield: If utilizing the lower airbox space, drop the provided heat shield into place. Bolt it into the factory mounting points using your 10mm socket. Slide the new high-flow air filter onto the end of the intake tube and firmly tighten the clamp with a 5/16-inch nut driver.
  3. Install the New Intake Tube: Slide the provided silicone coupler onto the throttle body and tighten the inner clamp with an 8mm socket. Push the assembled intake tube into the coupler. Align the welded bracket with the chassis vibration mount, then tighten all remaining worm-gear clamps.
  4. Reconnect Hoses and Wiring: Push the factory breather hose onto the new intake tube’s welded bung and secure it with the factory spring clamp using pliers. Plug the MAF sensor harness back into the sensor until you hear a distinct click.
  5. Perform the ECU Relearn: Reconnect the negative battery terminal with a 10mm wrench. Start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. Let the 2012-2015 Honda Civic 2.4L idle uninterrupted so the ECU can calibrate its air/fuel trims to the increased airflow.
