Awaken Your ’98-’02 Honda Accord F23A L4: Experience Real Power with Our Cold Air Intake
Who It’s For: Designed specifically for 1998-2002 Honda Accord owners running the venerable Honda F23A L4 engine, whether you’re daily driving a DX, cruising in an LX, or hitting VTEC in an EX, SE, or VP model. If you cherish that classic Honda reliability but crave a more spirited driving experience, this upgrade is for you.
The Problem: The factory intake system on your F23A L4 was engineered with one primary goal: silence. While quiet is nice, it comes at the cost of performance. The stock air box is a maze of restrictive chambers and convoluted piping, choking your engine’s ability to breathe freely. This creates bottlenecks, starves the cylinders of crucial cool, dense air, and ultimately dulls throttle response and horsepower, leaving valuable performance on the table.
The Solution: We engineered this cold air intake system to correct the factory design flaws of the Honda F23A L4, delivering reliable, measurable performance gains. By replacing the restrictive OEM components with a streamlined, high-flow assembly, this kit optimizes the air path, allowing your engine to inhale a consistent charge of colder, oxygen-rich air. The result? Sharper throttle response you can feel, a significant bump in usable horsepower and torque across the RPM band, and an engine note that finally matches its potential.
Why This is the Ultimate Upgrade
- Unleash Hidden Performance: Feel the difference immediately with tangible gains in horsepower and torque. This isn’t just a sound upgrade; it’s about optimizing air velocity and volume to give your F23A L4 the colder, denser air it needs for improved acceleration and a livelier top-end.
- Built to Last: Crafted from high-grade materials, our induction tubing ensures maximum durability and efficient heat dissipation, keeping your intake charge cool even under demanding conditions. Paired with a premium, washable, and reusable air filter, you’re investing in long-term performance and engine protection.
- Seamless Installation & ECU Integration: Designed for a direct fit, this kit comes with all necessary couplers, clamps, and hardware, making installation straightforward. Plus, our expert tip for disconnecting your battery helps ensure your Accord’s ECU properly learns the new airflow parameters, maximizing your gains right out of the gate.

Installation & Tools
Installation & Tools
The Wrench Time
- Estimated Time: 60-90 Minutes
- Difficulty: 3/10 - The top-end work on the F23 engine is easy, but wrestling the massive factory resonator box out of the CG chassis fender well requires patience and some plastic clip removal.
Tools You Will Need
- 10mm and 12mm deep sockets with a 3/8-inch ratchet and extension
- 8mm nut driver (or flathead screwdriver) for hose clamps
- Panel popper tool (critical for brittle Honda fender/bumper clips)
- Needle-nose pliers (for removing factory spring clamps on breather lines)
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Silicone spray or soapy water (for seating the rubber grommets safely)
The 6th Gen Accord community universally agrees: the factory air resonator box is a nightmare. It’s buried deep inside the passenger front fender. Do not try to rip it out from the top engine bay; you will break things. Use your panel popper to remove the clips holding the passenger-side wheel well liner and pull it back. Some guys even prefer dropping the passenger side of the front bumper entirely. Also, the F23 engine uses an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor pushed into the factory rubber intake arm. Never pull this sensor by the wires—twist the plastic base and pry gently to prevent ripping the 20-year-old harness.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 1998-2002 Honda Accord 2.3L
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and reset the ECU’s fuel trims.
- Unplug the IAT Sensor: Locate the IAT sensor on the factory rubber intake tube. Press the release tab and pull the harness connector off, then gently twist and pull the sensor body out of the rubber grommet. Set it aside in a safe, clean spot.
- Disconnect the PCV Breather: Use your needle-nose pliers to squeeze the metal spring clamp on the metal valve cover breather pipe. Slide the hose off the factory intake arm.
- Remove the Upper Intake Assembly: Use an 8mm nut driver to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body. Next, use your 10mm socket to remove the bolts holding the upper airbox to the lower housing. Wrestle the rubber arm and top airbox off as one piece.
- Extract the Lower Resonator Box: Turn your steering wheel all the way to the left. Use the panel popper to remove the plastic clips securing the passenger side fender liner. Pull the liner back to expose the lower resonator box. Unbolt the 10mm and 12mm bolts securing it to the chassis, and drop the assembly out from the bottom.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake
- Prep the Throttle Body: Wipe the throttle body lip clean with a rag. Slide the new silicone transition coupler onto the throttle body and secure it loosely with the provided worm or T-bolt clamp using an 8mm nut driver.
- Transfer the IAT Sensor: Find the pre-drilled hole on your new aluminum intake pipe. Insert the provided rubber grommet. Add a drop of silicone spray to the grommet, and carefully push your factory IAT sensor into the hole until it seats flush. Do not force it.
- Route the Cold Air Pipe: Gently feed the new intake pipe downwards through the hole in the engine bay into the newly emptied fender well void. Slide the top end into the throttle body coupler.
- Secure the Hard-Mount Bracket: Line up the welded bracket on the intake pipe with the factory threaded hole on the chassis (where the old airbox sat). Thread the provided 10mm bolt and washer in by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it with your 10mm socket.
- Install the Filter and Lines: Working from the wheel well, slide the conical air filter onto the bottom of the intake pipe and crank down the clamp with your 8mm nut driver. Connect the new silicone breather hose from the intake pipe fitting to the valve cover port. Plug the IAT sensor harness back in until it clicks.
- Tighten Down and Relearn: Double-check all clamps, brackets, and connections. Reinstall your fender liner clips. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the vehicle and let it idle. Do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds—this allows the 1998-2002 ECU to establish a new baseline idle with the increased airflow.
