Installation Notes

- Panel Popper Tool (For wiring harness anchors)
The GMT900/NNBS platform is notorious for two specific brittle plastics under the hood. First, the red safety slide-lock on the MAF sensor connector gets packed with engine bay grit and snaps if forced. Use compressed air or electrical cleaner before sliding it back. Second, the factory PCV breather hard-line connecting the valve cover to the intake plenum becomes highly brittle from engine heat. Press the grey release ring inward fully before pulling. Do not bend or force it, or it will crack, leaving you with a massive vacuum leak.
Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part
- Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. This prevents accidental shorts and resets the fuel trims on your 2009-2014 GMC Yukon 5.3L 6.0L 6.2L so it can learn the new airflow.
- Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor on the factory intake tube. Carefully slide the red locking tab back, press down on the release clip, and gently pull the harness off. Use a Panel Popper to detach the wiring harness anchor from the plastic tube.
- Disconnect the PCV Breather: Locate the hard plastic PCV breather tube connecting the valve cover to the large factory intake resonator. Press the grey release ring inward and pull it straight off the fitting.
- Remove the Factory Intake Tube: Use an 8mm socket to loosen the hose clamps at the throttle body and the airbox lid. Wiggle the bulky factory resonator tube (often referred to by the community as the factory "donkey dong" due to the large hanging Helmholtz resonator) free and pull it out of the engine bay.
- Extract the Airbox: Grab the lower portion of the factory airbox assembly and give it a firm yank straight up. It is held into the fender tray by rubber push-grommets and requires no tools to pop free.
Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake
- Assemble and Drop in the Heat Shield: Pre-assemble your aftermarket heat shield with the supplied rubber edge trim. Align the mounting pegs on the bottom of the new shield with the factory rubber grommets on the tray and push down firmly with your hands to seat the box.
- Transfer the MAF Sensor: Use a T15 Torx driver to remove the two screws holding the factory MAF sensor in the OEM tube. Delicately pull the sensor straight out. DO NOT touch the exposed sensor wires; the oils on your skin will ruin the hot wire. Transfer the sensor into your new intake tube using the supplied hardware (tighten gently using a 4mm Allen wrench).
- Mount the Silicone Couplers: Slide the new silicone coupler onto the throttle body and tighten the engine-side clamp using an 8mm socket. Slide the second clamp loosely over the open end of the coupler.
- Install the Intake Tube & Filter: Feed the new cold air intake tube into the throttle body coupler, then attach the high-flow cone filter inside the heat shield. Position the tube so it doesn’t rub against the radiator hose or alternator, then tighten all remaining clamps with your 8mm socket. Reconnect the PCV breather line (or install the supplied silicone hose) and plug the MAF sensor harness back in, sliding the red lock forward to secure it.
- The ECU Relearn Procedure: Reconnect your negative battery terminal with the 10mm wrench and start the engine. Do not touch the gas pedal for 20-30 seconds. This idle time is critical; it forces the ECU to establish a new idle baseline and adjust the Long Term Fuel Trims (LTFT) to account for the massive increase in airflow.
