Tired of your GMT400’s lumbering throttle response and muted V8 growl? Unleash the dormant power and rich sound of your classic truck or SUV with a performance cold air intake.

Performance Cold Air Intake for GMC Yukon, Chevy Tahoe & C/K Series (1996-2000) 5.0L / 5.7L V8 Engines

The factory air box and restrictive ducting in your 1996-2000 GMC Yukon, Chevy Tahoe, or C/K Series truck act as a significant bottleneck, choking the massive air demands of your 5.0L or 5.7L Vortec V8. This cramped design limits the volume of oxygen-rich air reaching your engine, leading to sluggish acceleration, reduced horsepower, and a less-than-inspiring engine note, especially during heavy loads or spirited driving.

This high-velocity air intake kit is precision-engineered to eliminate those factory restrictions, creating a streamlined, high-flow induction path. By allowing your engine to inhale a greater volume of cooler, oxygen-rich air with far less resistance, you’ll experience a much more efficient combustion process. The result is instantaneous throttle response, a noticeable surge of power, and a deep, authoritative V8 growl that transforms your driving experience.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Maximized Airflow: Eliminates the bottleneck of factory ducting, satisfying your 5.0L or 5.7L V8 engine’s massive demand for air during heavy acceleration and towing.
  • Superior Filtration: Engineered to provide maximum airflow while maintaining exceptional filtration levels to protect internal engine components from harmful debris and extend engine life.
  • Aggressive Engine Sound: Unlocks a deeper, more resonant V8 growl, providing a muscular acoustic profile whenever you hit the gas and a more engaging driving experience.
  • Instant Power Gains: Improves overall engine efficiency to provide a boost in both horsepower and torque by up to 10%, translating to better acceleration and passing power.
  • Underhood Aesthetics: Features a sleek matte black T304 aluminum intake tube accented by vibrant red couplers and accessories for a bold, custom engine bay appearance.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Very straightforward bolt-on, but requires a delicate touch when handling 20-year-old plastic clips and sensors.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm Deep Socket & Ratchet
  • 8mm Nut Driver (or Flathead Screwdriver for hose clamps)
  • Panel Popper Tool
  • Clean Shop Rags
  • Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner (Optional, but highly recommended while it’s apart)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The GMT400/OBS platform is notorious for two things during this job. First, the massive plastic "Vortec hat" (the factory resonator box sitting on the throttle body) collects sand and debris around its rubber base gasket. When you pull it off, that dirt falls directly into your intake manifold. Vacuum the area BEFORE lifting it off! Second, the factory PCV breather tube is incredibly brittle. Gently heat it with a heat gun or work it off slowly so it doesn’t snap off in your valve cover.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket. This prevents accidental shorts and resets the ECU to prepare it for the new Cold Air Intake for your 1996-2000 Chevrolet GMC Tahoe C/K Trucks Yukon 5.7L.
  2. Unplug the Sensors: Locate the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor and the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. Gently lift the locking tabs and disconnect the wiring harnesses. Use a panel popper to free any wire loom clips attached to the factory airbox.
  3. Loosen the Clamps: Grab your 8mm nut driver and loosen the hose clamps securing the factory rubber intake tube to the MAF sensor and the throttle body resonator box.
  4. Remove the Vortec Hat: Unscrew the center wing nut (or 10mm nut) holding the large factory resonator box directly on top of the throttle body. Lift the box straight up and immediately stuff a clean shop rag into the open throttle body to prevent dropped bolts or dirt from entering the engine.
  5. Extract the Airbox and MAF: Use your 10mm socket to remove the bolts securing the factory passenger-side airbox to the fender. Pull the entire assembly out. Carefully unbolt or unclamp the factory MAF sensor from the housing. Do not touch the delicate internal wires of the MAF sensor.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for GMC Yukon / Chevy Tahoe & C/K Series (1996-2000) 5.0 5.7L Engines

  1. Prep the Throttle Body: Remove the shop rag from the throttle body. Slide the new silicone throttle body coupler over the lip and snug down the bottom clamp using your 8mm nut driver.
  2. Mount the Heat Shield: Assemble the aftermarket heat shield and secure it to the factory airbox mounting points on the fender using your 10mm socket and the supplied hardware. Drop the new high-flow air filter into the shield compartment.
  3. Transfer the Sensors: Carefully insert the factory IAT sensor into the supplied grommet on your new aluminum intake tube. Next, connect your factory MAF sensor to the new tube using the supplied silicone couplers. Critical: Ensure the flow arrow on the MAF sensor is pointing away from the filter and towards the engine throttle body!
  4. Install the Tube Assembly: Guide the completed intake tube into the throttle body coupler and the air filter flange. Attach the supplied PCV breather hose from the engine valve cover to the port on the new tube. Once everything is aligned properly, tighten all hose clamps securely with your 8mm nut driver.
  5. Reconnect and Relearn: Plug the wiring harnesses back into the MAF and IAT sensors. Reconnect your negative battery terminal with your 10mm socket. Start the vehicle, but do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. Let the engine idle so the ECU can adapt to the increased airflow volume.
