Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm Socket and Ratchet (The GM standard)
  • 8mm Socket or Flathead Screwdriver (for hose clamps)
  • T15 Torx Driver (to transfer the MAF sensor)
  • Socket Extension (at least 6-inch)
  • Pair of Pliers

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Safety First: Ensure the engine is cool to the touch and disconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent any electrical shorts or CEL codes.
  2. Disconnect Sensors: Carefully unplug the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor harness and the crankcase vent line attached to the factory intake tube.
  3. Loosen the Clamps: Use your 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps at the throttle body and where the tube meets the airbox.
  4. Remove the Airbox: Firmly pull the factory airbox upward to pop it out of its rubber mounting grommets. Remove the entire assembly (tube and box) from the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Upgrade

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using your T15 Torx driver, remove the MAF sensor from the factory housing and install it into your new intake tube. Ensure the "Flow" arrow on the sensor points toward the engine.
  2. Mount the Heat Shield: Secure the new heat shield or airbox into the factory location. On these GMT800 trucks, you will likely reuse the factory 10mm bolts from the mounting tray.
  3. Seat the Intake Tube: Slide the silicone couplers onto the throttle body and the new airbox. Position the intake tube between them, ensuring a flush fit before tightening the T-bolt or worm-gear clamps.
  4. Final Connections: Reattach the crankcase vent line and plug the MAF sensor harness back in. Double-check that all clamps are snug (do not overtighten) and reconnect the negative battery terminal.
