Tired of your heavy-duty Sierra feeling sluggish off the line or struggling under load? Unlock the true potential of your 6.0L V8 with an unrestricted air supply, giving you the power and responsiveness you’ve been missing.

Cold Air Intake for GMC Sierra 3500 Classic Edition (2007) (6.0L V8 Engine)

The factory air intake system on your 2007 GMC Sierra 3500 Classic Edition, while designed for basic functionality and noise suppression, inherently creates significant airflow restrictions. This restrictive design chokes your 6.0L V8 engine, limiting its ability to draw in the cool, dense air it needs for optimal combustion, which can lead to diminished power and sluggish acceleration, especially when towing or hauling heavy loads.

Our high-velocity cold air induction system directly addresses these limitations by replacing the restrictive stock air box with a free-flowing T304 lightweight aluminum intake path. Engineered with an integrated heat barrier, this kit ensures your engine receives a consistent supply of cool, oxygen-rich air. The result is a more efficient burn, crisper throttle response, and a noticeable surge in power, modernizing your Sierra’s performance and engine bay aesthetics.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Significant Power Gains: Engineered to optimize the air-to-fuel ratio, boosting both horsepower and torque by up to 10% for improved performance under all conditions.
  • Immediate Throttle Response: Reduces intake lag and air turbulence, ensuring power is delivered the moment you step on the gas for a more engaging driving experience.
  • Superior Air Filtration & Engine Protection: Features a premium washable and reusable performance air filter that maximizes airflow while effectively protecting your engine from contaminants.
  • Durable T304 Aluminum Construction: Crafted with lightweight T304 aluminum piping and an integrated heat shield to ensure maximum durability and a consistent supply of dense, cool air.
  • Enhanced Engine Sound: Grants your Sierra’s 6.0L V8 a deeper, more authoritative growl under load, perfectly matching its robust character.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Beginner friendly. The GMT800 platform is spacious, making this a perfect Saturday morning project.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm socket and ratchet (Battery terminal, heat shield mounting points)
  • 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver (Factory hose clamps)
  • T20 Torx bit (CRITICAL: Required for removing the MAF sensor from the stock housing)
  • Panel popper or flathead screwdriver (For prying up wiring harness clips)
  • 4mm Allen wrench (Often needed for aftermarket hardware, check kit contents)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 2007 Classic 6.0L Vortec relies heavily on the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. The sensor element is extremely fragile. Do not touch the bulb or wires with your fingers; the oils from your skin can cause a CEL (Check Engine Light) or rough idle. Also, ensure the airflow arrow on the sensor points towards the engine during re-installation. If you install it backward, the truck will barely run.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Safety first. Use a 10mm wrench/socket to disconnect the negative terminal. This also resets the ECU fuel trims for the new airflow.
  2. Remove the "Vortec" Cover: To access the throttle body, remove the cosmetic engine cover. It typically uses a single 8mm bolt on top or simply pulls off friction clips, depending on the exact sub-model trim.
  3. Disconnect the MAF Harness: Locate the electrical plug on the air tube. Pull the grey safety tab back, squeeze the connector, and gently pull. Do not yank the wires. Use a panel popper to detach the wire loom clip from the airbox.
  4. Remove Breather Hose: Locate the rubber PCV/breather hose connecting the valve cover to the intake tube. Disconnect it. Note: On a 2007 truck, this rubber may be dry-rotted. Be prepared to replace it if it crumbles.
  5. Unclamp and Remove Tube: Use an 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps at the throttle body and the MAF housing. Pull the intake tube free.
  6. Remove the Airbox: The factory airbox is held in by rubber grommets on the mounting tray. Grasp the box firmly and rock it upward to pop it out of the grommets. You may need a 10mm socket to remove the mounting plate bolts if your new kit replaces the entire tray.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for 2007 GMC Sierra 6.0L

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using the T20 Torx bit, remove the two screws holding the sensor into the factory housing. Transfer the sensor to the new intake tube immediately. Secure it with the provided hardware (usually Allen head or Phillips), but do not over-tighten as you are threading into aluminum or plastic and can strip the threads.
  2. Install the Heat Shield: Bolt the new heat shield into the factory mounting points on the fender well. Use the 10mm socket to secure it. Ensure the rubber trim is pressed firmly onto the edges to seal against the hood.
  3. Install Couplers (Loose): Place the silicone coupler onto the throttle body and secure it loosely with a hose clamp using your 8mm socket. Do the same for the filter side. Leaving them loose allows for adjustment.
  4. Seat the Intake Tube: Slide the new tube into the throttle body coupler first, then align it with the heat shield/filter adapter. Once aligned, connect the PCV breather hose (use the supplied hose in the kit if the factory one is too short).
  5. Lock It Down: Once the tube is sitting without tension, tighten all hose clamps with the 8mm socket. Plug the MAF sensor harness back in until it clicks. Install the high-flow air filter onto the adapter inside the heat shield.
  6. ECU Relearn Protocol: Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the engine and let it idle for 5-10 minutes without touching the gas pedal. This allows the computer to relearn the idle airflow for the 6.0L engine.
