Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The Gotcha):
The K2XX platform (2014-2018) is notorious for having a highly brittle PCV breather line fitting on the LV3 EcoTec3 intake tube. It uses a grey push-button release. Do NOT force or twist it aggressively. If it’s cold outside, hit the plastic clip with a heat gun or hair dryer for 30 seconds to soften it before pressing the tab. Snapping this factory line means a frustrating trip to the dealer and a massive vacuum leak you don’t want.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2014-2018 GMC Sierra 4.3L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and reset the ECU’s fuel trims.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on the factory intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press down firmly on the black release clip, and pull the plug straight out. Use a panel popper to free the wiring harness anchor tree from the intake tube so the wire is entirely free.
  3. Release the PCV Breather: Carefully depress the grey locking tab on the PCV breather hose attached to the intake tube resonator. Wiggle it gently and pull straight back to disconnect it from the tube.
  4. Loosen the Hose Clamps: Use an 8mm nut driver to fully loosen the hose clamps at the throttle body and at the junction of the factory airbox lid.
  5. Remove the Factory Assembly: Pull the intake tube off the throttle body. Next, grab the factory airbox assembly and pull straight up firmly. It is held into the fender tray by three rubber push-grommets. Wiggle it slightly as you lift to release it from the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for GMC Sierra (2014-2018) 4.3L V6 Engine Black

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using a T15 Torx driver, carefully remove the two screws holding the MAF sensor in the factory tube. Pull the sensor straight out. DO NOT touch the exposed amber sensor element inside, as oils from your skin will ruin it. Transfer it immediately into your new aftermarket intake tube using the supplied hardware (which usually requires a 3mm Allen wrench).
  2. Assemble and Install the Heat Shield: Construct your new black heat shield using the supplied edge trim. Drop it into the factory mounting location.   4. Tighten and Reconnect: Position the tube so it doesn’t rub against the engine cover, AC lines, or radiator hoses. Tighten down all hose clamps snugly using an 8mm nut driver. Reconnect the PCV breather line until you hear an audible click, and plug in the MAF sensor harness, engaging the red locking tab.
  5. Perform the Idle Relearn: Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the truck, but do not touch the gas pedal for at least 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle untouched for 5-10 minutes so the ECU can properly adjust its Long Term Fuel Trims to the new, higher volume of incoming cold air.
