Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 3.7L Cyclone engine has a notorious factory PCV breather hose fitting on the intake tube. The plastic locking clip becomes extremely brittle from under-hood heat. S550 forum consensus is clear: do not pry it with a flathead screwdriver. Push IN firmly on the grey tab with your thumb, wiggle gently side-to-side, and pull straight off. If you snap this clip, you’re stuck walking to the parts store.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory 2015-2017 Ford Mustang 3.7L Intake

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow sensor on the factory intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press the release clip, and carefully unplug the harness. Tuck the wire out of the way.

  5. Remove the Factory Airbox: Grab your 10mm socket and remove the single bolt securing the S550 airbox to the driver’s side fender apron. Use a panel popper to release the two push-pins holding the plastic air scoop. Finally, grab the entire airbox assembly and pull straight up to pop it out of the lower rubber mounting grommets.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Ford Mustang (2015-2017) 3.7L V6 Engine Red

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Using your T20 Torx bit, carefully remove the factory MAF sensor from the OEM housing. Never touch the sensor element with your bare hands, as the oils from your skin will ruin it. Insert the sensor into your new aftermarket intake tube and secure it with the provided hardware.
  2. Install the Heat Shield: Drop the new aftermarket heat shield into the factory location, ensuring the bottom posts seat perfectly into the OEM lower rubber grommets. Secure the top tab to the fender apron using the original 10mm bolt.

  4. Insert the Intake Tube & Filter: Feed the new red intake tube through the heat shield opening and slide it into the throttle body coupler. Secure the tube by tightening the outer clamp with your 8mm socket. Attach the red high-flow cone filter to the end of the tube inside the heat shield and crank down the filter clamp.
  5. Reconnect Lines and Relearn ECU: Snap the factory PCV breather hose onto the aluminum fitting on the new tube. Reconnect the MAF sensor harness and push the red locking tab down to secure it. Finally, reconnect your negative battery terminal. On the first startup, let the engine idle and do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds until the ECU fully adjusts to the increased airflow volume.
