Tired of your Mustang feeling held back by factory compromises? Unlock the full potential of your 3.7L V6 with an immediate improvement in throttle response and a powerful surge of cool, dense air.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Ford Mustang (2015-2017) 3.7L V6 "Cyclone"

The factory intake system on your 2015-2017 Ford Mustang 3.7L V6 was engineered with noise suppression and cost savings as priorities, often at the expense of performance. Its restrictive design and convoluted piping create significant bottlenecks, limiting the engine’s ability to breathe freely, particularly under demanding conditions or spirited driving.

This precision-engineered cold air intake system replaces the restrictive OEM air box with a high-flow, direct-path design. By drawing in a larger volume of cooler, oxygen-rich air directly to your "Cyclone" engine through high-grade T304 aluminum piping, this upgrade maximizes airflow and eliminates the factory’s inherent vulnerabilities, delivering sharper throttle response and noticeable power gains across the entire RPM range.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Enhanced Horsepower & Torque: Experience a significant boost in power and acceleration, transforming your Mustang’s performance.
  • Improved Fuel Efficiency: Optimize your engine’s air-to-fuel ratios for a cleaner burn, potentially leading to better mileage.
  • Instant Throttle Response: Eliminate intake lag for immediate and more direct acceleration, making every drive more engaging.
  • Aggressive Engine Tone: Enjoy a deeper, more pronounced induction sound that complements your Mustang’s sporty character.
  • Consistent Airflow: Maintain steady, high-velocity air delivery for reliable, peak performance under all driving conditions.
  • Superior Filtration: Protect your engine from harmful debris with an advanced high-flow performance air filter, ensuring longevity and clean operation.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Basic hand tools, plenty of room under the hood, and a highly accessible S550 engine bay.

Tools You Will Need

  • 8mm and 10mm sockets (with a ratchet and a 6-inch extension)
  • 7mm socket or Flathead screwdriver (for factory hose clamps)
  • T20 Torx driver (for the factory MAF sensor screws)
  • Panel popper tool (for removing the OEM airbox push-pins)
  • Pliers (for the factory sound tube spring clamp)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The 3.7L Cyclone engine has a notorious failure point for DIYers: the gray/green locking tab on the PCV breather hose. As these S550 Mustangs age, that plastic gets incredibly brittle under hood temps. Do not pry it with a screwdriver. Squeeze the textured grips gently and slide it off. Additionally, the factory Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is highly sensitive. Never touch the wire element inside the sensor, and be aware that the factory Torx screws thread directly into plastic—they will strip instantly if you over-torque them during reassembly.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part from your 2015-2017 Ford Mustang 3.7L

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench to prevent check engine lights and allow the ECU to reset for the new airflow.
  2. Unplug and Remove the MAF Sensor: Slide the red locking tab back, press the clip, and unplug the MAF sensor harness. Use your T20 Torx driver to remove the two screws holding the sensor. Pull the sensor straight up and store it in a clean, safe place.
  3. Disconnect the PCV Breather and Sound Tube: Carefully release the locking clip on the PCV breather hose attached to the intake tube and slide it off. Next, use your pliers to squeeze the spring clamp on the factory sound tube (the hose running toward the firewall) and pull it free from the intake tube. Note: Most aftermarket kits will delete this annoying sound tube entirely.
  4. Loosen the Hose Clamps: Use an 8mm socket or flathead screwdriver to loosen the large worm-gear clamps securing the factory rubber intake tube to the throttle body and the airbox. Wiggle the tube free and set it aside.
  5. Extract the Factory Airbox: Use your panel popper tool to remove the plastic push-pin securing the fresh air snorkel to the radiator shroud. Next, use a 10mm socket to unbolt the single bolt securing the airbox to the inner fender. Firmly grab the entire airbox assembly and pull straight up to pop it out of its lower rubber mounting grommets.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Ford Mustang (2015-2017) 3.7L V6 Engine Black

  1. Assemble and Drop In the Heat Shield: Assemble the new heat shield/airbox assembly with the provided weatherstripping. Push the new assembly down into the factory lower rubber grommets and bolt it in using the factory fender bolt and your 10mm socket.
  2. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Gently insert your factory MAF sensor into the new intake tube. Pay attention to the airflow direction arrow on the sensor! Secure it using the provided hardware (usually Allen bolts) using the appropriate hex key. Tighten until just snug—do not crush the plastic.
  3. Mount the Intake Tube: Slide the provided silicone couplers onto the throttle body and the new air filter outlet. Slip the new black intake tube into the couplers. Use an 8mm socket to tighten the provided worm-gear clamps just enough so the tube won’t spin.
  4. Reconnect the Lines: Push the factory PCV breather line onto the new tube’s machined aluminum fitting until you hear it click. If your kit includes a sound tube delete, plug the hole at the firewall with the provided cap. Finally, plug the MAF sensor wiring harness back into the sensor and lock the red tab.
  5. ECU Relearn Protocol: Double-check all clamps and clearances. Reconnect the negative battery terminal using your 10mm wrench. Start the vehicle, but do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds. Let the vehicle idle so the ECU can adapt its fuel trims to the massive increase in cold airflow.
