Tired of that choked-up feeling when you hit the gas in your Mustang? Unleash the true roar and potential of your 5.0L Coyote with an immediate, noticeable power upgrade.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Ford Mustang 5.0L V8 (2015-2016)

The stock airbox and intake tube in your 2015-2016 Ford Mustang 5.0L V8 are engineered for silence and cost-efficiency, not maximum performance. This design creates significant bottlenecks, restricting the engine’s ability to breathe freely, especially during spirited driving or under heavy throttle where airflow is critical for power production.

This precision-engineered cold air intake system specifically addresses these factory limitations. By replacing the restrictive OEM components with high-grade T304 aluminum piping and a high-flow filter, it draws in a larger volume of cooler, oxygen-rich air directly to your engine. This optimized induction path eliminates vulnerabilities, ensuring razor-sharp throttle response and a significant boost in both horsepower and torque across the entire RPM range.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Enhanced Power Output: Experience noticeable gains in both horsepower and torque, unlocking your 5.0L Coyote’s true potential for exhilarating acceleration and top-end performance.
  • Instantaneous Throttle Response: Eliminate intake lag and enjoy more direct, immediate acceleration thanks to the unrestricted flow of cool, dense air to your engine.
  • Superior Engine Protection: The included high-flow performance air filter effectively blocks harmful debris and contaminants, maintaining engine health while maximizing airflow for optimal combustion.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 3/10 - Basic hand tools required. The primary challenge is delicately handling the S550’s factory plastic breather clips and transferring the sensitive electronics without causing damage.

Tools You Will Need

  • 10mm deep socket & ratchet (For the battery terminal and factory airbox mounting bolt)
  • 7mm & 8mm sockets or nut drivers (For loosening and tightening intake hose clamps)
  • T20 Torx driver (CRITICAL for removing the factory MAF sensor safely)
  • Needle-nose pliers (For removing the factory sound tube clamp)
  • Panel popper tool (For removing the plastic push-pins on the factory fresh air scoop)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The biggest headache on the S550 Coyote platform is the brittle factory PCV and breather hose fittings attached to the intake tube. You must push the grey/green locking tabs IN before pulling the hoses OFF. If you force or yank them, they will snap, causing a massive vacuum leak and a forced trip to the dealership. Take your time here. Also, if your aftermarket kit deletes the infamous S550 "sound tube," don’t forget to install the provided plug into the firewall, or you’ll be stuck with annoying cabin drone.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench. This prevents check engine lights on your 2015-2017 Ford Mustang 5.0L when we disconnect the sensors.
  2. Unplug the MAF Sensor: Locate the Mass Air Flow sensor on the factory intake tube. Slide the red locking tab back, press the clip, and unplug the harness. Using your T20 Torx driver, carefully remove the two screws holding the sensor. Pull the sensor straight out without touching the delicate element wire, and place it in a clean, safe location.
  3. Detach the S550 PCV Lines: Carefully press the locking tabs on the engine breather lines and softly slide the fittings off the factory Coyote intake tube.
  4. Disconnect the Sound Tube & Clamps: Use needle-nose pliers to squeeze the clamp on the factory sound tube and pull it off the intake. Next, loosen the factory hose clamp at the throttle body using an 8mm socket.
  5. Remove the Factory Airbox: Remove the single factory airbox mounting bolt on the driver-side inner fender using your 10mm socket. Use a panel popper to release the factory fresh air scoop clips from the front grille area, then pull the entire OEM airbox assembly straight up to pop it out of the rubber lower mounting grommets.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Ford Mustang (2015-2017) 5.0L V8 Engine - Blue

  1. Install the Heat Shield: Assemble the blue aftermarket heat shield and install the supplied rubber edge trim. Drop the assembly into the factory lower grommet locations and secure it to the fender using the OEM bolt and your 10mm socket.
  2. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Carefully insert your factory MAF sensor into the new blue aluminum intake tube. Secure it using the provided aftermarket hardware (typically requiring a Hex key). Tighten until snug—do not over-tighten, or you risk cracking the plastic MAF housing flange.
  3. Mount the Couplers & Tube: Slide the provided silicone coupler over the Coyote throttle body and slide on the clamps. Secure the throttle body side using an 8mm socket, but leave the intake tube side loose. Insert the new blue intake tube into the air filter and into the throttle body coupler.
  4. Lock It Down: Align the tube so it doesn’t rub against any engine bay components, then tighten all remaining hose clamps firmly with your 8mm socket. Reconnect the factory S550 PCV lines to the new tube—push them on until you hear an audible "click" to ensure they are sealed. If deleting the sound tube, install the firewall plug now.
  5. Final Protocol & Startup: Reconnect the MAF sensor wiring harness and push the red tab back in to lock it. Reconnect your negative battery terminal with a 10mm wrench. Start up your 2015-2017 Ford Mustang 5.0L. Let the engine idle and do not touch the gas pedal for 20 seconds so the ECU can adapt to the new intake airflow volume.
