Delete the silence of your New Edge and finally let that Essex V6 breathe.

High-Flow Cold Air Intake System for 1999-2004 Ford Mustang (3.8L Essex / SN95)

The stock intake on the SN95 Mustang was designed for grocery getters, not car enthusiasts. Ford strangled the 3.8L engine with a restrictive air box and a turbulent accordion tube to dampen sound.

This intake system is specifically engineered for the 1999–2004 "New Edge" platform utilizing the split-port 3.8L Essex V6. It replaces the entire factory assembly, eliminating the air silencer that chokes your throttle response.

By swapping cheap plastic for smooth T304 aluminum, you straighten the airflow path directly into the throttle body. The result is a crisper pedal feel and an induction roar that actually sounds like a Mustang.

Technical Specifications

Fitment 1999-2004 Ford Mustang
Engine / Chassis Code 3.8L Essex V6 / SN95 (New Edge)
Factory Horsepower 190 HP - 193 HP
Installation Style Direct Bolt-On (No Tuning Required)

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Throttle Snap: Removes the "dead pedal" lag caused by the factory resonator box for instant acceleration.
  • Essex Growl: Unlocks a deep, aggressive intake tone that turns heads when you step on the gas.
  • Cooler Charge: T304 aluminum piping and high-flow filtration deliver a denser air charge than the stock heat-prone plastic.
  • Proven Power: Optimizes air-to-fuel ratios for gains of up to 10% in horsepower and torque.

Installation & Fitment Notes

Installation is a straightforward bolt-on process requiring basic hand tools. You must disconnect the negative battery cable for at least one minute before and after installation. This forces the ECU to relearn the new airflow parameters for maximum performance gains.

Stop driving a strangled V6 and unlock the potential of your Mustang today.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Beginner friendly, basic hand tools needed.

Tools You Will Need

  • 8mm socket or wrench (Battery terminal, hose clamps)
  • 10mm socket with ratchet (Airbox mounting bolts)
  • Flathead screwdriver (Standard hose clamps)
  • T20 Security Torx bit (Crucial for MAF sensor transfer)
  • Phillips screwdriver (General assembly)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor on the 3.8L is friction-fitted into a rubber grommet. Because these vehicles are 20+ years old, the sensor plastic is extremely brittle. Do not pull it by the wires. Wiggle the base of the sensor gently to remove it. If the grommet is dry-rotted, replace it now or you will have a vacuum leak.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using an 8mm wrench to reset the ECU fuel trims and prevent shorts.
  2. Unplug Sensors & Hoses: Disconnect the MAF sensor harness and the IAT sensor harness. Remove the PCV breather hose from the factory intake tube by squeezing the clamp with pliers or simply pulling firmly if it’s a friction fit.
  3. Remove Intake Tube: Use a flathead screwdriver or 8mm socket to loosen the hose clamp at the throttle body and the clamp at the Mass Air Flow (MAF) housing. Pull the tube free.
  4. Remove Air Box: Remove the single bolt holding the air cleaner assembly to the inner fender using a 10mm socket. Lift the entire lower air box assembly out of the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Upgrade

  1. Transfer the Sensors: This is the most critical step. Remove the MAF sensor from the factory housing using a T20 Torx bit. Install it into the new intake pipe. Ensure the airflow arrow points toward the engine. carefully pull the IAT sensor out of the old tube and push it into the grommet on the new pipe.
  2. Install Couplers: Place the silicone coupler over the throttle body and secure it loosely with a hose clamp using a flathead screwdriver. Insert the new intake tube into the coupler.
  3. Connect the Filter & Shield: Install the heat shield (if equipped) using the factory mounting point and the 10mm bolt removed earlier. Attach the cone filter to the end of the intake tube and tighten the clamp.
  4. Final Connections: Reconnect the PCV breather hose, the IAT sensor harness, and the MAF sensor harness. Double-check all clamps are tight, then reconnect the negative battery terminal with your 8mm wrench.
