You’re tired of that sluggish throttle response and the feeling that your 3.8L V6 isn’t breathing right. Imagine a crisp, immediate surge of power the moment you hit the pedal, transforming every drive into an engaging experience.

Performance Cold Air Intake for Ford Mustang (SN95 3.8L V6)

The factory airbox in your 1994-1998 Mustang’s 3.8L V6 was engineered for quiet operation and cost-effectiveness, not peak performance. Its convoluted design, restrictive bends, and often undersized filter surface create significant resistance to airflow, suffocating your engine’s ability to pull in the volume of cool, dense air it needs to make power, especially at higher RPMs or under load.

Our Version 2 Cold Air Intake system directly addresses these limitations by providing a smooth, wide-diameter pathway for air to reach your engine. By replacing the bottleneck with a high-flow, performance-engineered filter and mandrel-bent induction piping, this kit ensures a constant supply of cooler, denser air, maximizing combustion efficiency and unlocking the power your 3.8L V6 has been holding back.

Why You Need This Upgrade

  • Instant Power Increase: Noticeable boost in both horsepower and torque, translating to better acceleration and overall responsiveness for your 3.8L V6.
  • Enhanced Throttle Response: Eliminates restrictive factory components for immediate, sharp throttle feedback throughout the entire RPM range.
  • Optimized Airflow: Delivers a higher volume of cooler, denser air to the engine, crucial for maximizing combustion and fuel efficiency.
  • Aggressive Engine Sound: Unlocks a more satisfying, sporty induction note without being overbearing, letting your V6 breathe audibly.
  • Premium Under-Hood Aesthetics: Features a sleek matte black tube with bold red silicone couplers, enhancing your engine bay’s appearance.
  • Superior Filtration: Utilizes a high-performance filter designed to protect your engine from harmful contaminants while maintaining peak airflow.

Installation & Tools

The Wrench Time

  • Estimated Time: 45-60 Minutes
  • Difficulty: 2/10 - Easy weekend project, basic metric hand tools required.

Tools You Will Need

  • Flathead Screwdriver (for hose clamps)
  • 8mm Socket or Nut Driver (standard Ford clamp size)
  • 10mm Socket and Ratchet (for airbox mounting bolts)
  • T20 Security Torx Bit (required for transferring the MAF sensor on some models)
  • Silicone Spray or Dish Soap (for the IAT grommet)
Mechanic’s Pro Tip (The "Gotcha"):
On the SN95 chassis, the rubber grommet holding the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is notorious for dry-rotting and turning into hard plastic. Do not force the sensor out. Spray it liberally with silicone lubricant first. If you snap the sensor or tear the grommet, you’ll be stuck with a vacuum leak and a Check Engine Light.

Phase 1: Removing the Factory Part

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal using an 8mm or 10mm wrench. This resets the ECU so it can relearn the airflow map for the new intake.
  2. Unplug Sensors: Locate the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor on the intake tube. Depress the locking tabs and gently disconnect the electrical harnesses.
  3. Disconnect Breather Hoses: Detach the PCV fresh air breather hose connected to the factory intake tube. Use a pair of pliers if the spring clamp is stiff.
  4. Loosen Clamps: Use a Flathead screwdriver or 8mm socket to loosen the hose clamp connecting the intake tube to the throttle body.
  5. Remove the Airbox: Locate the single retaining bolt holding the factory air cleaner assembly to the inner fender well. Remove it using a 10mm socket. Pull the entire assembly (box and tube) upwards and out of the engine bay.

Phase 2: Installing the Cold Air Intake for Ford Mustang (1994-1998) 3.8L Engine

  1. Transfer the MAF Sensor: Remove the MAF sensor element from the factory housing using a T20 Security Torx bit (or standard Torx depending on year). Carefully install it into the new intake pipe. Warning: Do not touch the delicate wire filament with your fingers; oils from your skin can cause premature failure.
  2. Transfer the IAT Sensor: Lubricate the new grommet provided with your kit (or the reused one) and gently push the IAT sensor into the new intake tube.
  3. Install Throttle Body Coupler: Slide the silicone reducer coupler onto the throttle body. Secure it lightly with a hose clamp using your flathead screwdriver.
  4. Mount the Intake Tube: feed the new intake tube into the coupler. Reconnect the PCV breather hose to the nipple on the new pipe. Align the bracket with the factory mounting point on the fender well.
  5. Filter and Final Tightening: Install the high-flow air filter onto the end of the tube. Once everything is aligned, go back and tighten all hose clamps firmly, but do not overtighten to the point of crushing the pipe.
  6. ECU Relearn: Reconnect the battery. Start the engine and let it idle for 15 to 20 minutes without touching the gas pedal. This allows the computer to adjust to the increased airflow volume.
